Are you serious? China can shut down our economy tomorrow if they want to. We have made ourselves so dependent on them, we have no choice. Watch and see.
You do realize their economy goes to zero overnight if we simply stopped maintaining the global system they must have access to to sell all their cheap plastic s**t, right?

What could we do to them?
Begin to retreat from the global system we created post WWII that allows them (and everybody else who is a part of it) to do anything economically.

We created that system...and don't use it for economic purposes. We created it for security purposes.

It is not for rent, but they can do things like construction projects for the base for the military, but it is direct payment too. I don't know why Germany pays so little either. They have roughly half of the force in Japan, but pay 1/10th the cost. Maybe the cost of operating the war ships over there?
Japan essentially had NO military for the longest time. And closer threats.

What global system are you talking about?

Trump signed a peace accord with them and released 5000 prisoner for the privilege of negotiating it. That is freaking begging.

I'm laughing at the hypocrisy of it all. The false bravado displayed by the administration saying the former administration was legitimating terrorist organizations. That they however don't negotiate with terrorists.

Well how else were you going to get this to work if we were pulling out? The Trump admin was forward thinking enough to know they were going to have to include these savages to attempt to save the weak kneed government that had been put in place before he was POTUS. While the current administration poked fun at the Taliban before this trainwreck. It's so obvious this administration was and is so wrong on so many levels. Now they want to flood the country with 10's of thousands of Afghans. Let's see how that works out. Just awful.

Which it will for some indefinite period of time, because there is no viable alternative. The Eurozone is still a s**tshow and has been for the entire time post-financial crisis.

There is no doubt that the United States abuses its reserve currency status and that it allows us to do things other countries couldn't get away with (because they don't have underlying bids under their currency). And one day the USD will not be the primary reserve currency. But not any time soon.

China is doing a great job at making it appear to the world like they are some ascendant power. The reason they are moving at this pace is because they know their time is limited. Same as Russia.

I agree with much of your post, but we can only maintain the current system thru the power of the dollar and protection. Money buys friends and allies and well, we are out. Just fed rates as seen during the Carter years would wipe out any fed budgets including the protective US services to shipping lanes and such.

And Crypto could be a death kneel.

Just alot of landmines so not sure I would assume sitting as a queen and never being overthrown.

Sorry .... but you post like he's "your dude" .... some get confused because of it.
When? The times I express my disdain for Trump? I've never posted anything complementing him, praising him or supportive of him, other than he is POTUS. He's always been somewhat of a clown. Old age difficulties might have actually lessened the joke. At least we never hear from him😉

China does not, and at the moment is incapable of, projecting force beyond the Taiwan Strait area. Their economy and entire society is dependent upon putting low-skilled manufacturing/cheap plastic **** on ships and sending them across the Pacific (and other places). The US Navy controls the world's oceans and the US created and maintains the system of "free trade" that has existed since WWII.

Crypto is digital gold. It is far too inefficient/slow to be a viable system of payments.

The one that China runs. His mistake is, he doesn't realize they call the shots.
China doesn't call **** anywhere outside their own borders. I will admit though, they have done a good job of getting Americans into thinking they are big and bad and can do whatever they want.

Your blind spot is that we are dependent on that cheap plastic **** they put on ships (it's a hell of a lot more than cheap plastic ****) and they could shut off that pipeline tomorrow and we would be in trouble. They also have enough of a navy in that region, where a hell of a lot more cheap plastic **** gets put on ships to disrupt shipping. Then you throw in the fact that they control the Panama canal, the majority of rare earth metals, huge steel producer and they can put a major hurt on us without firing a shot.

They have the advantage of not having to worry about their citizenry while our politicians do so they can wait us out.

Now that is a losing horse.

Nope. Mexico would make it for us. There are other places in the world that can make cheap plastic ****, not just them.

China controls the Panama Canal? WTF?

They've got y'all scared to death in there.

We depend on that same system, and we have a weak population that crumbles under stress. We would hurt ourselves as much if not worse.

We depend on that system for security (and now that the Cold War is over, we need it less), not economic reasons. The United States created it to begin with.

Literally the great majority of all things produced including our antibiotics are made in China. It's painfully obvious that they created a virus that has been called a global pandemic. They have been the largest economy since 2017. The CCP is the biggest transnational criminal organization there is, so big that our corrupted gov. is envious.
