If we didn't support Taiwan, would we support S Korea if Taiwan fell or what about Japan? I think our largest Asian base (collectively) is Okinawa; that's less than 500 miles from China and less than 400 miles from Taiwan. The Ryukyu chain (including Okinawa) runs practically to Taiwan. It seems all things considered, there would be not much real option than to side with Taiwan. If you concede Taiwan, then you may also be giving up the Philippines and the rest of the S China Sea. There's nobody in that region until you get to Australia that we can really take for granted.

What we've done "with" and "for" allies in the ME probably isn't helping our strategic position in the western Pacific.
We have strategic military bases all over the Far East. Size variance is inconsequential, given the personnel at some of our more specialized, condensed bases

There's no information available on some of them

I said China could put more aircraft over Taiwan than we could, they could have twice the aircraft in the air at one time than we could. It's a simple matter of logistics.

With he emphasis on the F-35 and China's fighter engine problems, it would be interesting to say the least. Who could keep the most planes flying and keep the most spare parts flowing.

Taliban claims it'll be more moderate, but Killings Continue In Afghanistan

Even as Afghanistan's resurgent Taliban pledged to respect "women’s rights" in a propaganda blitz Tuesday, fighters from the group shot and killed a woman in Takhar province after she went out in public without a burqa.

And in Kabul, Taliban vehicles packed with armed militants were recorded on video patrolling residential areas for activists and government workers. Gunshots can be heard as they accelerate down the street.

Longtime Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid held his first news conference Tuesday to state that the extremist group would honor women’s rights -- within sharia law. He also claimed that amnesty would be offered to Afghans who had worked for the country’s defunct, U.S.-backed government

But the F-35B would actually be very effective for basing. The long runways would be wiped out.

Biden Admin Depends On Taliban To Give Americans 'safe passage' 6 Weeks after Biden Said He Doesn't Trust Them

Thousands of American civilians remain in Afghanistan awaiting evacuation

The White House is depending on the Taliban to give evacuating Americans "safe passage" to the Kabul airport just six weeks after President Biden said that he doesn't trust the terrorist organization.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan joined White House press secretary Jen Psaki at the podium for a press conference on Tuesday, where they took questions about the fallout from the troops withdrawal from Afghanistan, which gave way to a swift Taliban takeover of the country.

State Dept tells Americans in Afghanistan to 'shelter in place' until they hear from embassy

The State Department on Tuesday told American citizens and others looking to get out of Afghanistan that they should "shelter in place" until they are given further instruction by the U.S. Embassy amid a fragile security situation in the Afghan capital.

"Our message remains for American citizens and for others who have expressed interest in relocation out of Afghanistan: shelter in place until and unless you receive a communication from the U.S. embassy," spokesman Ned Price told reporters.

Pollster: Biden Receives F Grade from Independents for Afghanistan Speech

Voters react in real-time to Biden remarks on fall of Kabul to Taliban

President Biden’s address to the nation on the unfolding situation in Afghanistan was met with low approval, according to Maslansky + Partners president Lee Carter.

In an interview on "Fox & Friends," the polling expert highlighted voters’ real-time reactions to the president’s speech, noting the most surprising response was Democrats’ disappointment.

"For the most part, when Biden speaks, they give him the benefit of the doubt. In this case, while they did give him some credit for what he said, they were really disappointed overall with the message," she said.

And we move some interesting stuff in from time to time. I've tracked Rivet Joint and Cobra Ball flights into Kadena (Okinawa) in the last few months, and I bet that should give a real clue about where they might be collecting data. There are a lot of tankers at Kadena to keep other planes in the air, too. B-52s flew missions from both Anderson on Guam and Kadena to Viet Nam, and the eastern China region around Taiwan is a shorter haul - at least from Kadena. That's a potentially rich playground for ship and air launched cruise missiles, too. The real issue is could anything be done to stop Taiwan from being destroyed - at least economically, and at that point, what's left.

BREAKING: Biden Admin Tells Americans Trapped In Afghanistan It ‘Cannot Guarantee’ Their Safety To Airport

BWH-scaled.jpg

President Joe Biden’s administration told American citizens trapped in Afghanistan that the administration cannot guarantee their safety if they travel to the airport in Kabul to be evacuated.

The Biden administration sent the following message to Americans trapped in Afghanistan:
To American Citizens,

BREAKING: Biden Admin Tells Americans Trapped In Afghanistan It ‘Cannot Guarantee’ Their Safety To Airport
Wow … to even admit it out loud. These idiots just keep setting new stupid lows.

I'm laughing at the hypocrisy of it all. The false bravado displayed by the administration saying the former administration was legitimating terrorist organizations. That they however don't negotiate with terrorists.

Well how else were you going to get this to work if we were pulling out? The Trump admin was forward thinking enough to know they were going to have to include these savages to attempt to save the weak kneed government that had been put in place before he was POTUS. While the current administration poked fun at the Taliban before this trainwreck. It's so obvious this administration was and is so wrong on so many levels. Now they want to flood the country with 10's of thousands of Afghans. Let's see how that works out. Just awful.
the stupidity of this post is astounding

Afghanistan ‘tragedy’: Two Veteran Congressmen From Opposing Parties Agree, share concerns

President Biden shouldn't have pulled troops from Afghanistan the way he did, Reps. Van Taylor and Seth Moulton, military veterans from opposing political parties, told Fox News, noting that the situation in the Central Asian country could still become worse.

Taylor, a Texas Republican, said Biden made a "tremendous mistake" and warned that Afghanistan could again become a terrorist breeding ground. Moulton, a Massachusetts Democrat, told Fox News that Biden should have delayed the withdrawal further and that evacuating the U.S. Afghan allies needs to be a top priority.

"There’s no question that what’s unfolding in Afghanistan at the moment is a terrible tragedy," Moulton, who served four tours in Iraq as a Marine Corps infantry officer told Fox News. "For all of us who are veterans of the wars of 9/11, it’s heartbreaking to see."
