Seriously, educate yourself.

China can put a **** load more aircraft in the air around Taiwan than we can which would keep our fighters refueling much further out. Plus they don't mind spending lives.

It would be so massive and quick that like I said over before it started, We would not initiate WWIII for it and we would not bomb the mainland.
Anybody think we would send hundreds of thousands of American troops to retake Taiwan is naive.

You sure about that? Remember, the world's second largest air force is the United States Navy.

If the question was a simple "could we defeat China in a conventional war" the answer would be yes. We could could defeat them in a conventional war but it would take more lives than I think the American people are willing to spend to do it. I also doubt the American people would put up with the hardships from the supply disruptions a war with China would cause. Basically I don't think we have the will to win a conventional war with China in Asia.

Nobody wins a nuclear war so we would do nothing to risk that.

The American people aren't willing to spend lives in wars like Iraq or Afghanistan after al-Qaeda was destroyed. A war with China is a little different kind of deal.

What does that have to do with the conversation? How many fighters, bombers, refueling tankers do we have in the theater?
You said China could get way more planes than we could in the theater because the mainland is so close. However the US Navy would be there, which has more aircraft than the entire Chinese Air Force. That isn't even including the land-based aircraft the US Air Force would bring in.

The fact that China would be so close to their mainland undoubtedly makes it easier for them to balance the scales, but I don't think the United States would be overrun by Chinese air power in such a conflict.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia

I said China could put more aircraft over Taiwan than we could, they could have twice the aircraft in the air at one time than we could. It's a simple matter of logistics.

It would be a completely different kind of deal, a much bloodier and expensive deal.
You totally misunderstood the point. The American people aren't willing to spend lives in pointless conflicts like the War in Iraq or the War in Afghanistan after about 2003-04.

Yeah they do. That's called "playing catch up ball" as the great Ric Flair would say. How many pies do you think we have our fingers in?

China practically owns shipping - at least by ship, and controls some very key bottlenecks. The bottlenecks aren't secure because they are too remote from China, but sabotage on the way out is a whole different game. This all matters because we gave up industry to buy Chinese. If you can contain the country with the world's largest population, then except for their nuclear stingers maybe their options are limited. But with the number of Chinese ships out on the ocean, can you actually be sure that critical supplies like fuel and aid to allies across oceans will get there - even assuming that we could get back to production like WW2? And what third world countries would align with China and what are those strategic implications? Look at China's footprint and the ME and Pacific oil fields - even Siberia for that matter - then consider you could kill a billion Chinese and they would still easily outnumber us.

You think we would go to war over Taiwan? Talk about a huge cost in lives and treasure.

If we didn't support Taiwan, would we support S Korea if Taiwan fell or what about Japan? I think our largest Asian base (collectively) is Okinawa; that's less than 500 miles from China and less than 400 miles from Taiwan. The Ryukyu chain (including Okinawa) runs practically to Taiwan. It seems all things considered, there would be not much real option than to side with Taiwan. If you concede Taiwan, then you may also be giving up the Philippines and the rest of the S China Sea. There's nobody in that region until you get to Australia that we can really take for granted.

What we've done "with" and "for" allies in the ME probably isn't helping our strategic position in the western Pacific.

Have you seen that ramp nosed aircraft carrier they bought second hand from the Russians? Other than all of the weapons they stole from us, I don't think their navy is a big threat.

But they can sure ship a horde of Chinese to Taiwan in a big hurry. Imagine what you could put on some of those container ships.

Been fighting in the sandbox for thousands of years. We are not going to alter that culture. It will continue.

Yep, those folks have a different value system when it comes to liberties, life, justice etc. We're appalled at the way they treat each other but for them, it's just the way it is. If they want to remain in the stone age, I say let them at it. If they cut out of line, we should turn the country into 252 million sq miles of glass.
