his coaches are letting it be known that he is headed to Bama

The Kiffins and Lance Thompson were at his basketball game in Skyline, AL last night. They must feel like there's some chance of landing him, or why waste their time.

This was just posted on the Chattanooga Times site. Cut and pasted it. Was hoping we could persuade him for a visit!

North Jackson (Ala.) high school All American linebacker Tana Patrick confirmed this morning that he will make the University of Tennessee his final official visit before national signing day on Feb. 4.

Patrick originally had planned to visit Miami the weekend of Jan. 30-Feb. 1 but during Monday night’s in-home visit from Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin, defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and new assistant Lance Thompson, Patrick decided to visit UT instead.

Patrick already has made official visits to Alabama and Auburn the last two weekends and has another scheduled for Southern California this weekend.

The 6-foot-3, 227-pound linebacker, who was named Alabama’s Class 4A Mr. Football for a second straight year and recently played in the U.S. Army All-American game, is a Rivals.com four-star prospect and the nation’s fifth-best inside linebacker prospect according to the recruiting service.

He has said since the fall that he will wait until the final day before announcing where he’ll sign.

Thanks for the info allvol9. I am a first time poster on here and this one caught my eye. North Ala and North Ga get covered in the Chattanooga Times because Chatt is a tri state area. I am impressed that Kiffin and staff got Patrick to change his last visit from Miami to UT. North Jackson puts out a ton of talent and that would be a great area to get into. Kudos....Patrick will like what he sees in Knoxville.

(prepare to be merged)

His visit is a statement visit, which should help to excite other recruits (those attending and those considering).

His visit is a step towards a change in the culture at UT.

lookoutmtnvol welcome to the board. I too agree that it is great to get all these studs to visit so late into the game.

Bama all the way, dont get too excited.

You never know once you get them on campus. At least we have a shot. More than the last regime would have gotten. It's not bad for only having a month and a half to try to assemble a class. The fact is whether he signs with UT or not Kiffin & Co are getting the top players interested in UT again. That's a positive in my book. So excuse me for getting excited.

They wont just roll over but they really are wasting their time. If nothing else they are establishing a relationship with the coaches.

In this case its well known, sorry, hes just taking his visits. I am excited about kids we do have a chance with like Montgomery, Jeffery etc etc but not these kids who have been locked in to their choice for a long time now. Nothing more than a free trip and some fun, plus I dont know if I would really want him and Richardson here together...Both Bama kids on our biggest weekend.

I would go out on a limb and say that Tana has probably been to UT campus before. I mean, he lives in Stevenson, which is only 2 and a half hours away from UT, I wouldn't say its farfetched to think he's already been on campus before....maybe this visit could be serious. He knows our facilities, he knows our traditions....maybe he's actually interested. But I still think he's Bama. But hey, we can be optimistic. I hope we can get this guy, the Tampa 2 would love him.

It may be late in the process. But the point is they secured the final visit....and did a take away from Miami. Now if I was just taking visits for fun in the winter I would choose Miami and not Knoxville wouldn't you? So UT's staff must have done quite a sales job to convince him Knoxville should be the last visit. I think just doing that speaks volumns about what we have going now.

There's only 2 weeks left before NSD...they have plenty of time to get to know local coaches after that day. I'd say they don't see it as a waste of time.

dont get excited. i believe this is another recruiting tactic by satan to help persuade recruits i.e. Trent Richardson

You know.....Richardson has yet to visit....and has therefore yet to persuade anybody yet. Don't start assuming yet. I think we are confident enough in our approach to get these kids attention. And if we don't get them, who cares, we'll work with what we got. If they want to play, we'll use them. If they don't, we have more than capable players as well.

I agree...don't forget that we already have the 15th rated class according to Rivals....or 16th...I can't remember.

This is very possible -- but maybe, just maybe Kiffin will teach Saban that his tactics are a huge mistake by stealing a "commit" somewhere along the line. Kiffin isn't dumb, nor is Saban -- so in the end, Saban believes there is no way this kid leaves and Kiffin thinks he has the ability to pull off a major upset. To be candid, I like both of their arrogance. It's nice to see our name out there and their motivation to go after any kid, any where, any time.
