They couldn’t beat Georgia Tennessee LSU OR Alabama. Ohio State and Michigan would be a loss. USC and Oregon would be high scoring games and I’m not sure they could beat them. But top 8 yes I’ll agree…6 at best. They are overrated in the sense that they are probably not a top 4 team. But Finebaum goes way too far claiming 'advanced analytics' predicts every top 10 team would crush them. Sagarin has them at #9, one spot ahead of LSU. They'd be maybe a 6-8 pt underdog to Michigan and Tennessee.
The case that TCU is a top 4 team is weak based on advanced analytics, but they are still a very strong top 8 / top 10 ish type team.
I don’t see that Tennessee was the #1 team in the country in the Arkansas game. With still three or four games to go. Go to Syracuse and beat that team in the dome starting the year. How many teams can say they beat Donovan McNabb senior team starting out the year in dome?!?!? Then a Florida coached spurrier team that has your number. Georgia and Bama and then a 8-0 highly ranked and highly publicized Arkansas team. Then the SEC championship game against a difficult Mississippi State team. That’s helluva gauntlet and that is NO comparison to say TCU is anything close to that.TCU's season reminds me somewhat of the 98 vols. At lot of close games, they were outside the BCS looking in up until the very last week when a couple teams lost above them. Still they were the only unbeaten team and underdogs to FSU. Fulmer said you don't have to be the best team in the country, just the best on the field each week, or something like that. That being said, hopefully they will lose before the final selection.
If that’s what you call ready to play they’re gonna get slaughtered in the playoffsOverrated? No. They are deserving. IMO they’re just as deserving as UM and Ohio State as they have played a tougher schedule. Are they one of the top 4 teams in the country? No. But winning is the best formula regardless of everything else. If they keep winning, you can’t fault them and keep them out just because you think another team is better.
But I will say this, everyone thought the Texas game was their “trap game”. No, that was the game they were looking ahead to and was ready to play. Baylor is their trap game.
It would be far better for them if they lose a close one the next two weeks, win the Big 12, and go to a good bowl they have a chance in. If they make it to the playoff, they will get beaten to a fine paste by a B1G or SEC school and end up being clowned mercilessly until the end of time. It will be like this great season they’re having didn’t happen, just like Manti Te’o’s ND team.I get it, you can only play the teams on your schedule. 10-0, way to go fellas, BUT...
If TCU were in the SEC they would barely have a winning record.
If they make the playoffs, they will get skull drug in major way. No one wants to see that amount of violence inflicted on TCU.

We may know more when they play Texas. If they beat them convincingly, then maybe they could take Alabama since Bama probably should’ve lost to Texas. Idk. The transitive property doesn’t seem to hold up in college football. Teams just match up differently from team to team. I just don’t know how good the B1G teams are due to SOS. Same as TCU. Pulling for Texas to beat them though to get my boys in the CFP. Wanna see how they finish the season.
That game was so hard to watch...I watched the TCU/Texas game, and good god, both teams were awful. If Texas had any kind of an offense TCU would have went down that night. TCU might make the playoffs, but it will be an embarrassment to watch. That’s where the committee needs to step in and say, “We know you’re undefeated, but you simply are not one of the best four teams in the country.” Of course, I’m not convinced they will beat Baylor this weekend after watching the Texas game.
Honestly, it's very simple, if you're NOT one of the "best four", then by definition, you don't belong in a "best four" ranking...TCU is most deserving of a spot in the playoff if they go 13-0. But they will not be 1 of the "best" 4 teams in the country in the playoff.
And that is a balance the CFP has to handle. Like last year, Cincy was not one of the best four, but they deserved a spot in.
