Team News (current roster)

It was clear in the scrimmage yesterday this kid can play. And all the guys around me watching the scrimmage were really excited with his level of play. It was just a scrimmage but it seemed he played with a level of control maybe better than KC. Amazing to watch both kids get up and down the floor with such speed and quickness for sure. Having KK and KC gutting it out every single day in practice will benefit both and neither will probably see more than a couple of kids who are as quick and explosive as they are this year. Really enjoyed the scrimmage!

I was impressed with him in the couple of practice highlights that have been released. Doesn't look out of place against the competition at all. He might be our Fulky replacement as fan favorite.

TIFWIW but VQ sticking to the idea that Nkamhoua will be the starting 4 when things tip off, mentioned also that Aidoo has missed quite a bit of time of late (didn’t say why). To me it sounds like…

Chandler/Zeigler
Vescovi/Bailey
James/Powell
ORN/BHH
Fulk

After those 9, in order: Plav, Diboundje, Mashack, Aidoo, Tamba (likely RS).

I was expecting a bit of an ORN breakout last year, but I’m really hoping this is the year.

I think he’d have 2 more years after this year with the covid year, correct? If so, front court should be in pretty good shape going forward if aidoo/tamba can develop.

Yup, that’s correct…and yea, if he has a breakout and is a SEC level front court player we’re on pretty good shape.

I've always thought Nkamhoua needed to develop that CJ Black/Wayne Chism set three point shot as the trailing big man or on the inside-out half court offense to be more effective. It always seemed his form was fine, so, hopefully, he's figured this part of his game out.

Early reports are that he’s definitely added at least a threat of a 3pt shot, we’ll see what happens when the lights come on but he went 1/3 from deep in their scrimmage this past Saturday.

I was pretty excited about Mashack when we got that commitment. A Top-50 prospect with elite defensive capabilities and incredible athleticism. I thought he'd be an immediate impact guy, but I guess it's going to take some time for him to develop. I wonder if he redshirts if he isn't even in the Top 9 of the rotation?

I did NOT have Zeiglar beating out Mashack on my bingo card, that's for sure.

The backcourt is crowded, lots of talent and then lots of guys with experience, I’m not too worried about Mashack, if anything it shows where the program is at that theoretically 2 Top 50 guys may not even be in the rotation. As for him verse Zeigler, we will see…I think that has more to do with the fact that they like keeping Vescovi, Bailey, Powell off ball and that they feel good enough in Zeigler to give them 8-10mpg to spell Chandler and also prep him for next year in the process.

So BHH wasn’t impressive in the last scrimmage and Aidoo is at the end of the bench. Last year’s highly ranked class not starting off with a bang

We will see if that speaks more to the experienced guys ahead of them or the freshman themselves. Yves Pons was pretty highly ranked and didn’t do much his freshman year either, some guys need some time…I would expect more from BHH than Aidoo.

5 or 6 years ago, Mashack probably is an instant impact guy, at least in terms of minutes played. Just a testament to how far our program has come in that time. We are going to have two 5* freshman post players and a 4* wing coming off the bench, two of which may only play in mop-up duty.

Who saw that coming in 2016?

Good points Chris. I would assume starting 5 is going to look like Chandler, Vescovi, Fulk, ORN, James?

ORN beating out BHH is a big concern with me if true.

Why can't it be an encouraging sign, at least until ORN proves on the court that he is what we thought he was? I say that as someone who was against signing ORN to begin with, and that I never bought the hype.

We know BHH has talent, evidenced by his offer list. Now, it's possible that the red flag allegedly waived by Kentucky in the recruiting process has come home to roost. But maybe ORN has really improved that much. Again, I'll believe it when I see it on the floor, but I'm not immediately walking in with an attitude of negativity about it.

I’m also concerned Barnes is defaulting to his 3 in-2 out roots since BHH likes playing on the perimeter which would indicate he isn’t changing his offense

I think BHH has some maturing to do and likely some buy-in, both positionally and on the defensive end that he needs to exhibit to play a serious role for Barnes.
