Team News (current roster)

So BHH wasn’t impressive in the last scrimmage and Aidoo is at the end of the bench. Last year’s highly ranked class not starting off with a bang
Didn't we have a couple of NBA first round draft pics start off on the bench last year? I wouldn't discount these guys too badly just because it may take them a bit to get up to speed.

I think BHH has some maturing to do and likely some buy-in, both positionally and on the defensive end that he needs to exhibit to play a serious role for Barnes.

I think this is almost certainly the case. And it is being dealt with the appropriate way. That means ORN does not display those same shortcomings, and even those less talented, you play ORN early and continue to set the precedent that is must be done the right way. If you just TELL him he needs to mature and give more buy-in but yet start him or give him major minutes then you are doing a disservice to BHH and to the team long-term.

My guess is it’s a way to keep BHH motivated, which seems very plausible given some of the things said about him. The talent is there and is visible according to many who have watched practices/scrimmages, but he can “check out” or lose focus from time to time, I think they’re just trying to get more out of him.

I’m also concerned Barnes is defaulting to his 3 in-2 out roots since BHH likes playing on the perimeter which would indicate he isn’t changing his offense
Obviously have to see it, but has sounded like ON is shooting some midrange and 3’s as well, if that’s the case then it would seem he and BHH would be similar at the 4.

I’d like to see Mashack redshirt if he’d be around 4 more years. But I have a feeling that he’ll be developing enough that he won’t stick around for 5. Unless he can pull in high 6-figure NIL dollars as an upperclassman.

Hopefully it’s the Pons model, which is hopefully what we see from ON this year…no redshirt, appear in most games but not all, not many minutes but a guy clearly Barnes sees something in.

As big as this staff is on culture and work ethic, how do these kids keep getting signed? Just too hard to pass on the talent?

We will see if that speaks more to the experienced guys ahead of them or the freshman themselves. Yves Pons was pretty highly ranked and didn’t do much his freshman year either, some guys need some time…I would expect more from BHH than Aidoo.
Swing and a miss. Pons was a fringe 4* ranked 127 and playing in Europe. Don’t recall anyone thinking he would show up and start.

But to your point, Johnson and Springer came off the bench to start the season. They were however getting much better press from their preseason practices than BHH or Aidoo. Hopefully your right and with time they will perform up to their rankings

Coaches like Barnes fall in love with their talent and potential and believe they can teach them how to take pride in their craft and work ethic. In many instances, they can. Sometimes they can't.

Think you’re the one striking out there buddy, #63 ranked player by 247, but nice try.

Kinda saw it coming.
