Team Rankings (Recruiting)

There are 18 seniors on the roster:

Roster 2007-2008 - UT Sports Official Site

then add the number of transfers, players who get kicked off, or leave early for the draft, etc. I'm assuming Fulmer went into the season with a full roster.

I only remember Coker getting kicked off so that goes up to 19. They will mostly sign more since some usually don't qualify.

David Holbert and Antonio Gaines will be back next year.
However, don't your scholarships only last 5 years, if so than Gaines shouldn't have one. I believe he has been here five years already.

I have learned not to go by recruiting. We normally have a top 5 or 10 and all it gives us is 9 win seasons!!!! What gives?? Bad recruits or bad coaching????

Combination of both. Not evaluating talent right and not coaching it up when it gets here.

no, he was a 3* running back/linebacker or 2* fullback, depending on which service you asked.

if there is an upside it is that there are some real sleepers in this claas and several guys who should be ranked higher than they are.

Steven Fowlkes has only been playing ball 2 years and has some real upside.

both poole and wilks deserve to be ranked higher than they are on rivals.

bailey recently went from 4 to 3 stars and thats questionable IMO. he's a big time prospect from a small school.

and as you've been reminded several times...there's still a month and a half until signing day and tennessee always finishes strong

...relax

but we are not usually in the position we are in with basically no offensive staff

UT has signed two 4 star players this class. A junior college LB and a TE, both position with depth.
I doubt Fulmer takes a bunch of 3 star players and wins the SEC.

I don't understand. How can Tennessee, a top ten football program of ALLTIME, not even get a semi-decsent recruiting class. This worrys me more than getting beat by UF & Bama 100-37, because that was when we had "top 5 talent."

If we can't get elite players then I DONT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO OUR VOLS!

Tell me if I'm overeacting but WERE BECOMING OLE MISS! AHHHHHHHHHH

you can't recruit great talent based on what you did 60 years ago.

Look at the positions we are going after. I bet that the linemen we are getting are rated pretty highly compared to other linemen. The wide receivers, defensive backs, running backs, and quarterbacks always seem to get the highest star ratings. Also, we don't have many scholarships to give out this year. We aren't going to have a highly rated class, but we'll be fine this year if we add a few OL and DL.

Bama has a five star and two four star linemen, including one from Tennessee.

just because UT doesnt get a recruit doens't mean "we didn't want them". That's what every school's excuse is when they get out recruited.

We didn't really go after Hightower from what I've heard. I think one of the other guys had a dad that played for Bama, or something like that. No big surprise he chose the Tide.

I think we weren't really high on Spurlock, either. hvwarrior would know better than I would.

yeah just because a kid plays for a TN high school means we are going all out for him.

we never were big players for spurlock, hightower, or jordan.

jones was a bama lock all along who teased by not committing to them right away.

we've only got about 8-10 scholly's to give out. we have to get some big time talent. you don't give a kid a free ride because he lives in your state.

problem with that is, you allow pipelines to form that you don't necessarily want.

Spurlock tried to commit to UT. We wouldnt take his commitment. I'd say that falls in the "didnt want" category. Jones we obviously wanted. But he is a Bama legacy. Not the coaches fault on that one. Hightower we might have let slip away. That is the one I'll give ya.
