Team Rankings (Recruiting)

I counted 19 players in the rivals 100 as uncommitted at this point: Rivals.com Prospect Rankings

IMHO, not having a complete staff is hurting. Having 4 or 5 new coaches on staff in January making their first contact with recruits trying to convince them to committ to UT is going is a tougher sell.

I noticed that too. It's slim pickings out there right now. However there are some really good ones still uncommitted. And who knows with some of these coaching changes there could be some de-commits and transfers.

If we can get some solid d linemen out of this class I'd be happy. We loaded up on the "skill positions" last year. With the number (or lack of) scholarships we have to offer this year, we're not going to have a highly ranked class... so I'm noot panicking.

I counted 100 not signed.

That will change in 4 weeks, national signing day is 2/6/08. Tennessee is ranked 43rd, they have a long ways to go.

By the way, I counted the list of uncommitted players in the rivals 100, it is down to 15.

They are about full. They're keeping a couple of spots open for Julio and Jerrell Harris.

That would make me so happy if Alabama didn't land Julio. Every one of them say he's going to Bama.

Regardless if they get Jones, they're recruiting class is going to be great. However, from day one Jones has been their number one target and it would great to see him leave the state.

Champy, see my post on the other ranking thread. Practically all those teams are full or close to it. UT has 4-8 more to commit. If 2-4 are 4-5* players then they'll leap frog several of those teams in a down year for Tn HS talent.

Just out of curiosity... Did last year's class quit sometime recently... or the year before or the year before that?

This recruiting class will not contribute greatly for at least a year and whatever shortcomings there are in this class can be made up by the one before it and the one after it.

This year UT will have some thing like 16 SRs, 19 JRs, 19 Sophs, and 31 Fr/RS FR on scholarship... and that may not include Morley or Warren and won't include Faison.

The bottom line is that the cupboard isn't nearly bare and won't be for awhile. If UT becomes second tier in the next 2-3 years... it won't be because they haven't recruited enough talent.

But just for curiosity's sake... When was the last time recruiting rankings won a football game? I don't remember Auburn ever beating UF in recruiting rankings... but UF can't seem to beat them.

the only reason we have done as well as we have on the field is the talent. we needed DT's in the worst way and basically are getting shafted. in my personal opinion fulmer is a very average coach, and the only reason he has won alot of games is because of the great talent he brings in. without that great talent and no DT's we are in alot of trouble.:salute:

Sorry but no. This past season was probably the worst combination of talent and experience CPF has had as HC. They won the East and beat a very good Wisconsin team. The best talent was young. The older players weren't up to the standard UT has had in the past.

They only lost about 17 scholarship players and some of them weren't contributors. They only have 16 scholarship Sr's this coming year and at least 3 of them were JUCO's.

Like them or not, UT's coaches did a good job with this past year's team.

First, it isn't over. Second, about as many DT's are built from former DE's and even LB's as are signed out of HS.

Douglas has the size to be a DT. Even someone like Austin Johnson could potentially play DT at 280-290 and be extremely quick inside.

I agree that UT needs DT's. I'd love to see them sign a couple... but there are other means. If all goes well, Hall and Sykes will return next spring and be ready to play in 09.

in my personal opinion fulmer is a very average coach, and the only reason he has won alot of games is because of the great talent he brings in.
I think his greatest weakness is as a game day coach. He practices them well and develops players decently well. His greatest strength even if this turns out to be a down year according to the recruiting svcs is recruiting.

Again, those 27 guys he brought in last year didn't go anywhere. Along with all those 4-5* players... He also found guys named Moore, Rogan, and Frazier that got PT as Freshmen and played well.

without that great talent and no DT's we are in alot of trouble.:salute:
I don't know how it will turn out with Clawson on staff. CPF is a CEO. They aren't going to win games because he "coaches" well... If they win, it will be because he surrounds himself with quality coaches and gets them to coach well.
