Teams reaction to new smokey uniform this morning

I like the style, so don't get me wrong, but what if they decided they didn't want to hear Rocky Top for a game? Can you imagine that? Neyland Stadium with no Rocky Top for an entire game? Besides, they're the ones that the band is playing it for anyways. Can you imagine the uproar in that? But why would it be, Rocky Top is not an official song of the University, so it can be disposed of more easily than the official primary color, right? Also, there was no Rocky Top back in 1914, so it'd be fitting to not play it when these uniforms are worn, right?

There wasn't any Rocky Top before the early 70's good thing we didn't mind to start that tradition right?

My point is traditions start somewhere. And your reaching far into your bag of ignorance to convince us Butch is trying to kill tradition.

Seriously? Gray is one of the few colors that works with orange, the uniforms look contemporary, and the players apparently like them a lot.

I just can't understand why some fans are having such a tough time with this!

Will you still have a problem if we keep reeling in recruits and are competing for an SEC championship in a couple of years?
Stop using logic

How so? The argument is that gray/black was used in our history, way back when. Well, it was in our history to not have that piece. And then the argument goes to "Well, if the team loves it, do it", so I proposed a situation where the team wants to get away of something dear to this fanbase. So, that pretty much is on par with all the arguments for it. And I even admitted that I don't hate them.

So, the Vols will win and get recruits because of the uniforms? Wow! Dooley should have tried that. These costumes are a distraction. Maybe I'm strange for finding actual football sufficiently interesting. When I go to the games I don't look forward to seeing a gray flag carried around the field. If some people feel they get too much orange and white they could look for another team to support. What difference would it make since the costumes are more important than the game to them? When people get bored with the gray we could hire the person that designed the uniforms for the University of Maryland. Perhaps the grass could be dyed chartreuse. Would that hold interest more than the game?

I'd love to see the White Jerseys with the Gray pants!--or the White pants with the Gray Jerseys!

Not for every game--but as a change-up. I like 'em.

GO VOLS! :salute:

Here is where your argument fails. The team does not want to get away from O&W. The team will wear an alternate uniform one game per season. In which case will still feature and O&W helmet. I do not see this as an all out change of tradition, rather an addition to the Great ones we already have. And to pay tribute to one of the greatest teams of tennessee history...

Again, let's go full fledge into that tribute and take Rocky Top out for that game. If we are going to do it, let's do it right. That's the point. Once that first win is attached to that jersey, it'll be begged to be used again and again and again. When you give a mouse a cookie. I remember when the black jersey was a "game on Halloween" thing, which became "a game a year", and now I've heard people say they want them every home game. It'll never be enough.

Butch has said time and again that he is going to stick to the traditions of UT and start some new ones along the way.

So can we stop talking about what if this or that tradition goes away?

He is not changing the school colors. They are still orange and white.

There is a alternate uniform that is grey, orange and white (that is also school colors btw) that we will wear one time this year.

Why the hell is anyone getting upset?

Do you jump in the pit of balls at the playground at McDonalds when you go? No because its not FOR you. It's for the kids. You don't have to understand it.

These uniforms are not for you. They are for the kids. You don't have to understand it.

If it gets the team fired up I'm all for it. Any edge we can get I'm all in.

And yes. Kids wanna look cool. Is that new?

Your reaching and you know it.... Were not dropoing rocky top were not dropoing O&W... ITS ONE GAME A YEAR... No one cared when the minority of the fan base wanted the black every game. And if not for a last second stunt by Kiffen we wouldn't even have worn them once...

Watch them cheer them on or turn the channel or set in another stadium..

We shouldn't have to use gimmicks to recruit like Oregon does. You don't see Bama and LSU using stupid gimmick uniforms do you ?

Better yet, all of you who like cheesy gimmick clown suits can go root for Oregon or perhaps Maryland!!!

Florida wore a 1 sleeve, UGA wore power ranger uniforms, LSU has worn white and also vegas gold helmets, A&M changed their entire uniform, Notre Dame has alternates, Michigan, Ohio State, Miami, FSU, Nebraska, Stanford, even Alabama wore houndstooth numbers for a game. These uniforms are awesome. Everyone is doing it. Get on board or jump the heck off and get left behind. Either way, UT is moving forward and the real fans will be behind them gray uniforms or not.

Doesn't matter what those young whipper snappers think!...

I'm 30 years old. I don't even care what's cool with our football team anymore I'll continue to go to games as long as I believe in this program. Hopefully Butch can turn this around and we can start to win again. As far as the uniforms go- what's the big deal? If the "talent" (read: big time recruits) likes it then that's what matters... You can't win in the SEC without big time players and we need 'em... so let's get 'em.... let's start winning... then we all as men can sit down and talk colors, fashion and 50 Shades of Gray if we have time...

Blue hair IMO. Same type person that gets upset when people stand and cheer at the game.

Nah I don't like cheap gimmick clown suits... I'll suoport my Vols as they honor old traditions and embrace new ones...

I won't however whine and complain over a uniform that will be worn once a year.

If you don't like it its cool no big thing... But crying about on a message board where the majority of the fan base love them isn't going to be much fun...

How can I not give in to such powerful arguments? Name-calling belongs in the sandbox. But, I guess when that's all one has, they might as well use it.

I wonder how many people just "loved" seeing the new orange uniforms when they went to a game in 1922....that seemed to work itself out and so will this.
