Tebow Goes in First Round to Denver

Alex Smith was coached by Urban Meyer and was taken in the first round. So far he's been a bust.

Chris Leak was coached by Urban Meyer for 2 years and was not drafted. He's not in the NFL.

Meyer is 0-2 so far. Tebow has only ran the spread option offense. What NFL team runs a spread option offense more than a wildcat package? None. He has a long way to go before he will get any respect. I just don't see him picking up an offense he has never run before, while also reading blitzes, coverages, etc. in a matter of a few seconds. If he is able to pick up all of that stuff in the next 3-4 years he might turn out to be an average NFL QB, but it's not very likely. He has way too many things going against him.

Pure truth! Florida has never produced an NFL QB that was worth two cents. The only offensive player worth a damn that came out of Florida was Emmit Smith.

Tebow was a huge gamble. A 1st round pick, in most instances, is expected to contribute early, not 3 or 4 years down the road. Tebow will need those years to develop into an NFL QB.

I dont blame Tebow. I blame his useless ex-coach, his playground football offense, and his in-ability to prepare his offensive playmakers for the NFL.

Amazing that no NFL teams called you guys earlier in the week to get your input on what they should do as both of you clearly know way more than they do.

Tell me, are you performing brain surgery tomorrow because you've watched a full season of House?

At least they understand the difference between college and pros. Notes would be good for you

Actually, they did.

It's amazing how many times you've been wrong about football since you've joined the board. You may know more about laws and such, but when it comes to football your borderline retarded. It's great that you finished law school and make good money, but this is a football board not a laws board, and when you have no clue what you are talking about 90% of the time it makes you look silly.

I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night

Yikes! S*** just got serious.

It was a gamble to take Tebow in the first round. Yes absolutely. Matt Leinhart , Vince Young, Brady Quinn, Jay Cutler were all picked in the first round of the year they entered the draft. How many of those guys currently have super bowl rings are are even considered that successful?
I am a Titans fan and I really hope Vince Young turns things around for them.
IMO taking Sam Bradford as the #1 overall pick in the draft was a huge gamble. A $50 Million gamble. The simple fact is that there are no guarantees in football.
I Hate florida but Tim Tebow is a good person and deserves a chance. Its entirely possible he could be a bust in the NFL.
I would still take him over clausen any day of the week and twice on Tuesday. :)

There is no way possible that a successful lawyer has any free time to read and post on a sports message board, esp. an opposing team's board.
Of course a public defender would have plenty of time

I, in agreement with most NFL analysts, never saw Tebow as a first round pick. There were, and still are, questions about his mechanics and his ability to transition to an NFL offense. One thing that no one should ever question about Tebow is his desire and his will to succeed.

I am bored and have thought about this some more. It is likely that the Broncos saw how committed Tebow is to fixing his mechanical flaws and they saw his work ethic which is great. They were obviously sold on him and thought that they had best not let him slip away. Is it a questionable pick? Oh yes. Most people, including the people who gave it a grade of F on ESPN, believe it is odd. I do too. I can see why they did it though. I might have done the same thing if I were in the Broncos position.

I don't believe that playing at Florida is a bad thing for him. It isn't like Rex Grossman is going to come out and hit him in the back of the knee with a crowbar. He will succeed or fail based on his own abilities and I will not judge an NFL player solely on my college loyalties.

I did not like Tebow in college one bit. It is pure misery to watch all of the teary-eyed segments on sports shows and the favortism and praise given to him by announcers. I also do not share his views about many things. I refuse to hold that against him at this point. I hope he is able to succeed. Right now he has more doubters than believers.

1) Tebow will absolutely not be a good NFL QB, and I absolutely will not eat those words.
2) His interview on NFL Network was painful to watch. Kid is a hair smarter than a bag of hammers.
3) Josh McDaniels will be fired within the next two years.

Funny. It seems if they had called you or Inciblues Bradford would have gone second. The bottom line is it was a surprise to Vol fans, "experts" and every Gator fan I've talked to about Tebow. Excluding you and Inci-wincygator, of course.

Tim Tebow = Eric Crouch
He'll be light years better than Eric Crouch. Even if he doesn't pan out as a starting QB, he'll have value just because of all the things he can do. The question is whether he was really worth first round money.

Was it Crouch or Frost that actually went across the ball and became a decent safety/nickleback? I get my Nebraska option QBs confused sometimes.

I really don't object too much to Tebow being picked at 25. The only thing that amazed me was what they gave up to move there to get him. I do NOT think he was worth a 2, 3, and 4 to get there.

All in all, if he was anywhere other than Cleveland, I would say I like McCoys chances better to make it long run.

They are both solid individuals though, and I hope both succeed.

If I remember correctly, Crouch was the one that just flat out refused to try other positions and turned into a head case and basically just quit.

That's exactly it. Despite LG acting whiny and indignant as if we are taking a dump on a statue of the Virgin Mary . . . I really hope Tebow succeeds.

He had a press conference to announce his retirement before he ever played a game

and if he succeeds, he'll redesign the game. There has never been a qb like him in the NFL. A body of a TE but a great throwing arm. If he can operate out of the shotgun on every snap and it works, the game will be reinvented. It could be like when Randall Cunningham led the way of the 'running QB' which opened up a new option at the position.

Oh, I was surprised. Not shocled to the point of near death, like some around here evidently were. But I did not expect him to go until at least Friday, maybe Saturday.

Difference is, I recognize my own lack of knowledge on the subject and assume that people picking these players are a mite sharper than me on the subject.

You are correct. Frost will actually visit Neyland this fall. Receivers coach for Oregon.
