My first reaction was to feel disallusioned but ... the terrible "recruiting stretch run" probably made USC a very bad environment to coach in. Tee decided to stay at USC with a stated "loyalty to players he had recruited" - (1) some recruits reneged and went elsewhere and that released him somewhat from that commitment and also hurt the hope of a NC at USC. (2) He is listed as actually recruiting alongside Orgerron on at least one recruit that I saw and that may have woke him up and made him realize that he is aligned with EVIL. (3) Tennessee no longer has an opening so too late to join CBJ's staff this year- we hired somebody for that position. Anyhow, it is still ONLY A RUMOR --- but Tee would be making a step in the right direction if he decided to walk away from Kiffin and Orgerron and I would applaud that. Leaving Kiffin would AT LEAST be a step in the right direction and maybe someday toward rejoining VOLS.

Tee Martin has a right to coach where he chooses, and his decisions as an adult will not nullify what he did in the record books while at UT; nor should they. T helped to bring us a National Championship, enough said. I wish him and his family the best. Maybe one day circumstances will work out where he can wear the orange and white once again, duplicationg his previous success at UT. May God bless him, and his family.

Since graduating, T has represented this university with class, and he is currently one of the most respected position coaches at the collegiate level. What a great role model to young athletes, and recruiting tool for UT's Butch Jones to use.

I'm off my soap box now

Well said! U got class!

Hey now, be easy on ED O....many on here are in love with Coach O......Remember, he stated, "they were going to let teams into Neyland and lock the gates.....put them through 60 minutes of hell, and watch opposing teams BEG for us to let them out"....yea, that went far........:birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle:

I said this when he turned the UT job down! I think Tee and CBJ did not see eye to eye on ALOT of things!! I got the sense from CBJ's no response, that the two really didn't get along! I don't think CBJ wanted the pressure of knowing a living legend from UT would be present on his staff. Quit blaming Tee.....his response to turning down our job was a straight professesional response. I think Tee knew the sitiuation at USC was going to get worse and, never stopped seeking employment elsewhere. Why we blaming Tee??? Hell, since UT fired Fulmer they have not done much right anyway....IMO....God forbid this be UT's fault.......Go Tee.....VFL.....Once CBJ fails 5 years from now, you people will be stroking Tee....Because he will be our next HC!!

There's an awful lot of 'I Think' in this post.

If he didn't want to come here he didn't want to come.

Not worth getting bent out of shape over.

Tee Martin spanked the Gators & the Noles in the same year. He made all those Florida boys respect the VOLS! That 76 yard bomb to Price in the National Championship was a classic!

Don't care where he decides to coach at, he was the QB for a National Champion UT team, so I could never hate him. Besides it's not like Tennessee is a winning program at the moment. Pains me to say it but USC and FSU are better jobs at this time. Hopefully that changes in the next 2 to 3 years.

Do any of you have any real world experience with recruiting for a position or applying for a job where you don't say the word "fries" 100 times per day?

The report was that UT offered. Tee said no but may now be changing his mind. He's a professional football coach... He's not a player any more. When an interview takes place both parties are evaluating whether they think their own circumstances will be improved with a hire. Maybe Tee just didn't think he would fit personality wise with the staff. That does NOT mean one or the other is bad. It could mean they just didn't mesh and had the wisdom to see it.

OTOH... this is just speculation at this point and perhaps things really have changed at USCw. Maybe they have changed for Tee personally or with his relationship with the AD or Kiffin?

There are innumerable possibilities that have nothing to do with Tee being a traitor, Jones being a bad coach, or anything particularly negative.

Personally, I have no inside info on anything.

Would you expect CBJ or Tee to say anything Negative about their meeting?? No!! Basically, it was Tee's job if he wanted it! Who knows what happened in their meeting?

Secondly, I DONT have confidence in this staff. I love the Vol's......But this is not a SEC ready staff. Maybe, maybe 3-4 years from now.....but not now....not 2013-14 seasons.

Third, why else would Tee be coaching?? You honestly think he wants to be a WR coach the rest of his life. He will eventually be back at UT as a HC.

he aint a coach yet....5 yrs HC,,,,you're a friggin idiot

Is this just a rumor or does this story have legs? I just saw this on twitter. If he goes to FSU I for one will be Pissed! I was not at all mad when he didn't take the job at Tennessee. Just for the reason his family liked it in Cali. and he was happy with the money he was making but if he up and goes to FSU I will never pull for him again!:censored::censored::censored:

Remember guys, most of these coaches are similiar to lawyers. They say what they imagine you want to hear.

They all say that they would love to coach at University "A".

They all say that Mud State is a great and storied tradition, even though Mud State has only had a program for 2 seasons.

Rather than be embarrassed and used again to get a raise for someone, I would NEVER even mention considering Tee Martin for a position on any U.T. football staff. Leave his name off of any list of consideration for anything at U.T.

Tee Martin was mentioned as a wanted hire many times by fans and even asked about by a reporter at CBJ's first presser. I don't think there was any conflict between the two but we were a fan base that ran wild with the Gruden fiasco, got let down because of those wild rumors, had already reached its lowest point before Dooley was even fired and desperately needed a morale boost.

Both CBJ and Tee respected our wishes as fans to at least put an offer up (Jones) and then entertain it (Martin). But neither Butch Jones nor Tee Martin were prepared to make such an immediate move after meeting one another only once and having no time to learn about the other -- coaching hires aren't just made on the spot even though they often look like that.

In retrospect, it shows an incredible respect for UT and our football fanbase on the part of both men to even entertain the idea let alone make an offer and visit based on fan desire.

Also, I met Tee on campus in 97/98 at Hodges Library. He didn't know me from Adam and I didn't bring up football or compliment him (I didn't know him as a person anymore than he knew me). He was both kind and somewhat shy. Good players, even great players, come and go but THAT meeting made me a fan of him.

Is this Mrs. Martin? I was asking if it is a rumor or if it is true. There is some stories out there already. If he goes to FSU after he turned us down he will not beloved by Vol nation!

It is only FSU fans bringing it up. See my links below.

As far as what Tee deserves ... He deserves our respect for leading the Volunteers to an undefeated season, undisputed BCS National Championship, and hanging around Tennessee for years waiting on them to call him. They didn;t so he took a job in Kentucky. Then he took a much much better paying job at USC. Then Kiffin boosted his pay so much to stay instead of coming to Tennessee he'd have been a fool to turn it down.

For all those posting negatively towards Tee, I'd like to see you turn down $100,000 or more a year just to stay in Tennessee. You'd follow the money. You know you would. Now Kiffin arguably has the hottestcoache's seat in the NCAA. Both offensive and defensive cordinators are gone as well as many several assistant coaches. Almost as bad as what happened to us. His own dad even left. He's got to turn the program around with what he's got, but all his assistants, even Tee, know he probably won't. This has just happened since the foo fa raw with CBJ and Tee here. Now CBJ has his full staff. No open positions. Tee is probably looking at potential stable locations for a position coach, he's not at one now. Again, what would you do with a young family? You'd look for stability and the best salary you could get, and be a total fool if you didn't.

If it hurts you feelings that Tee stayed where he was for better than $100,000 well, here ...:cray:

Who cares about Effin tee martin. He won a nc here on Peytons team. The recruits were here because of peyton. not tee. He was an average qb then and he is an average recruiter now. He is not a vfl and I could care less if he goes to fsu or anywhere else. He had his opportunity to coach here and turned it down. F*^* TEE MARTIN. He is a bandwagonner. He going from USC to FSU for recruiting. It doesn't take much skill to recruit at either one of those schools. LOSER
