Tee's explanation

always been a fan of tee's, but he lost some ground with me over this by the way he handled it. If he knew going in that he was staying at usc then that's exactly what he did was tease the fans.

I, like many others on here, hate the fact that Tee is on the staff of the West coast idiot however, Tee actually showed more class than Lame ever has and ever will. He is actually willing to keep his word. Lame Kitten should pay close attention to what Tee did here. Making promises and following through is a lot tougher than just packing your crap and hopping on a plane in the middle of the night when you see something that you just gotta have.

Tee is a VFL and he will be coaching at Tennessee in the future. USC should enjoy the time they have with Tee. Eventually he will come back home and he will bringing some solid recruiting connections with him.

Ding Ding Ding
We have a winner.
Dumbest post of the thread!!

Always has to be some drama or motive.
How could anyone turn UT down, especially a former player. Dang, that CBJ is a smart man to plan all this.
Geeeezzzzz, get a life.

Oh, and by the way 06, I hear Gruden owns land in East TN!! :salute:

Thanks for your expert opinion of my post. I am humbled to be in the presence of you genius.
BTW, I still stick by my opinion. And don't worry about my life please. And such drama in your post.

Don't blame the guy for doing what he and his family want to do. What I don't understand is why so much national press about a wide receivers coach turning down an offer. Maybe I just don't pay much attention when other teams hire their WR coach.

He had enough love for UT that he came here to see what was here for him. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Nothing. Your opinion is stupid.

And his son is here. Good idea to get an all expense paid trip to Knoxville to see his son.

I would hope he has made plenty of trips to Tennessee.

That statement is total bs. If it werent he would not have come all the way out here.

Tell the truth, tee. Money wasnt good enuf? Or what?

The whole "man of my word" thing is what bothers me. That statement says directly that he wasn't coming to Tennessee this year under any circumstanve, it was just leverage for a pay raise.

His wife probably likes it in socal and I get that and respect it. But just say that you didn't want to move your family. We can respect that.

But what he did, it would be like me going to a brothel just to check things out, but then coming home to my wife and saying I'm coming home because I'm a "man of my word" and I promised to love you forever...

No, promise was broken when you entettained another offer!

Tee Martin to remain USC assistant - Yahoo! Sports

''At the end of the day, I am a man of my word. I promised Coach Kiffin when I was hired at USC that I had goals I wanted to accomplish here. We still have work to do here to reach those goals. I see a great future at USC with the players on our roster and the recruits we have coming in."

That's all crap. Nothing he said there that he didn't already know before getting on that plane to visit CBJ in Knoxville. He used us to either get a promotion or raise just like everyone else did.

Tee Martin rejects offer from Vols - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN

Martin, who quarterbacked Tennessee to the 1998 national championship, turned down an offer to return to his alma mater and coach wide receivers. He flew to Knoxville on Monday to meet with Jones, but decided he wouldn't pull a "Lane Kiffin" and bolt after one year despite a deal that would have paid him as much as $400,000 per year. Of course, the irony there is that Kiffin is Martin's boss at USC and spent 14 tumultuous months as Tennessee's head coach in 2009.

If Tee is a man of his word, then he would still be at Ky. I'm sure he didn't sign a 1 year contract. He used Tn to get a pay raise.
It not like Tee is some stud recruiter. USC recruits itself and the kid out of Nashville more than likely would of went to SC regardless of Tee.

Why can't it be exactly like he explained it? There is a good chance that his whole family really likes it in LA. Maybe the offer just wasn't good enough. Maybe he just didn't connect with Coach Jones and it didn't feel right. Tee came to the interview out of respect for his alma mater. Some of you on here need to respect him and thank him for his part in the '98 NC.

Just trying to make Tee look as bad as possible? Maybe you should consider edited your post. Below is the entire statement not cut and pasted to try and make Tee look bad.

"I was very honored to be offered a position on Coach Jones' Tennessee staff," Martin said in a statement released by the school. "I truly believe he will do an outstanding job with the Vols program. My decision to remain at USC was the toughest I have ever had to make because Tennessee is such a special place to me.

"At the end of the day, I am a man of my word. I promised Coach Kiffin when I was hired at USC that I had goals I wanted to accomplish here. We still have work to do here to reach those goals. I see a great future at USC with the players on our roster and the recruits we have coming in.

"I have so much love and respect for Tennessee. But at this time, the right decision was to continue at USC and I am looking forward to doing that."

Read between the lines:
Now that we got rid of our ****ty DC we can go out and win some ballgames.

Maybe Tee wanted to make the move. Maybe his wife Toya had the final say and he just didn't want to announce to the nation that he is PW'D. Maybe she could earn them much more by staying in LA for her recording career then moving to Knoxville. Or, like some have implied, maybe coach Jones made him an offer he knew that he would turndown in order to get his former receivers coach here. Either way, time to move on, Tee has.

My Gawd...

Tee wanted to come but his wife vetoed it. She wanted to stay in LA. Who can blame her. He brought them hoping to change their minds.

If you believe that, then you have your orange colored glasses on. Tee flew to Knoxville with his family on UT's dime to visit and to spend time with his son and get a raise in the process. He knew before he left California what he was gonna do. Nothing he saw in Knoxville that he and his wife hadn't seen before.

Many times what the family likes and what is a good family decision are two completely different things. Those on here that haven't raised one won't understand that statement.

$500,000 in LA is like $300,000 here. $375,000 here would have been a HUGE raise. People that haven't been there don't need to comment on the $$.

I think I have the right to comment on the money if I want to. Whether I have lived there or not. But thanks for your advice.
