Tennessee at #17

My expectation is more on regular season, the tounrey is all about draws most of the time. Do I think we can make an elite 8? Absolutely, however should the season be a failure if we don't? I don't think so. I'm looking for a much better start to the season, to be ranked the majority of the year, and to be playing for seeding in February instead of our tourney lives. If we get in as a 4 seed, win one but lose to a 5 seed for a chance at the sweet 16 I can live with that.

Time for Martin to step up and show what he can do with a loaded squad. Hopefully a sweet 16 given all the returning talent. If this team doesn't at least make the NCAA it may be time to start a new search.

Hell, getting in the tournament as a 4 seed would be awesome. I wouldn't be too happy about losing to that low of a seed in the first round, but I'd still be overall pretty happy.

Just a question but could anybody see Richardson starting over golden? Golden seems to be better off the bench and Richardson is by far our best perimeter defender.

As of now Richardson does start, but hypothetically...who would play PG in that scenario.

It's still too early to predict if Tennessee will be in the field of 68 at the end of next season. Even if all players return and all players live up to expectations, they're still going to have to win more than 20 games. That's never an easy thing to do in the SEC.

We were able to this year, with a much better team next year it'll be pathetic if we don't.

Because we are returning kids that havent made the big dance two years in a row? I like how short vol nations memory is. WE LOST TO MERCER IN THE NIT FIRST ROUND. I guess that guarantees sweet 16.

And the team that's the favorite to win it all next year lost to ROBERT MORRIS IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE NIT

In my post I said losing to a 5 seed or a chance to make the sweet 16, so that'd mean we won one and lost to a 5 seed (us being a 4).

You HAVE to have depth of talent at guard. Do we? I'm talking about three guards who can play. Louisville, wow--they had the total package this year. Good guard play--they can play defense and get to the trim; an impressive power forward, good three-point shooter, and a mobile, athletic, shot-blocking center. Even with all that, without the reserve's three-point shooting they would have lost.

While I do agree with this, our Vols tend to play to the level of their competition. That goes both ways. I don't think either of the those teams would have blown us out.

You are out of your mind! I doubt that Tennessee could have beaten L'ville's press with what I saw on the court this past season!!!

If Maymon and McRae come back, it is an Elite 8 talent level team.

We have only been to one, yes, but that doesn't matter. That Elite 8 team was not the best Tennessee (or even Bruce Pearl) had.

Didn't make the tournament the last two years? Doesn't matter either. Still doesn't mean it was a disappointment or underachievement or however you want to look at it.

But Pearl left the cupboard empty!

Maymon - Stokes - Hubbs - McRae - Golden

That is surely an Elite 8 squad if we can get some consistency from them eps. Golden!

Yeah I kinda questioned some of this guys reasoning....never mentioned Hubbs...dont get me wrong...I dont think he's on the level with a one and doner...but..I definitely think he's worth mentioning...and several teams on that list are perennial underachievers like say a Memphis squad who have done NOTHING and keep showing up on these preseason rankings only to find themselves outside looking in after the season....I guess its because they have about as much talent (ranking wise at least) as any team around (except of course Kentucky)...So there's a lot of variables to rank us that high...depending on who stays, goes, etc...

If your suggesting starting JR over Golden at PG, well, JR needs to dribble with both hands before that's even remotely possible. If you just meamt putting hin out there to get our best 5 on the court, it still leaves a big hole at PG. Hubbs isn't a PG, and McRae running point hinders his ability to score, which is his best asset.

I'm surprised how highly ranked a lot of places have us, I figure barely top 25...be nice to get some positive pub though.

They already think highly of us. Will be even better if we bring in someone else JuCo or what have you that can add to our talent.

We don't have their recruiting class either. Our predictions are mainly based off of players on the team. Hubbs should help, but the core of the team is already here.

I agree with you on the regular season though, its too hard to say this team should go to the elite 8. Matchups are everything in the tourney.

why don't we let the playing in November do the talking. I'm not giving myself "elite 8 expectations" when none of us know the chemistry of the team. The Miami Heat had all the talent in the world and didn't win a championship. Unfortunately for college basketball you have to find that chemistry as soon as the pieces come into place. You never get back to back years with that kind of talent in college ball.
