I agree they're an NCAA caliber team, but they didn't control their own destiny once they lost. A lot of unforeseen things happened elsewhere today that will push them into a tighter spot. All in saying. I'm not sure how anyone can disagree that if there's only 3-5 spots up for grabs (as an example) how a team with an RPI of 42 isn't sweating more today than a week ago.

Looks like Alabama has hired Brad Bohannan. John Manuel of Baseball America thinks Tennessee is targeting Tom Walter of Wake Forest.

hmmmm...hate to say I told you so but it looks like Bama is going to hire Bohannon. TN athletics cannot play with the big boys...sad.

Well they definitely got the hire before us. I'm not sure a coach with a career record of 0-0 is considered top notch until they actually win some games though.

Looks less than stellar on paper IMO. 5 regionals in 21 yrs as a HC doesn't create a lot of excitement. If I'm hiring a guy with limited postseason credentials then I want it to be someone either young or with SEC ties. He doesn't mark any of my boxes but they didn't ask me so it is what it is.

Am I the only one that thinks Calvi should be at the top of our list. Was an assistant at South Carolina and has his own program winning and in the tournament

I like Calvi a lot. That is who I thought Bama would target initially.

If it's not going to be Bohannon then I think you have to turn to Calvi.

It has to be someone with SEC experience to understand the challenge and the in's and outs of the league. Look at every recent SEC hire; its guys with very recent experience in this league.

1) UK - Nick Mingione (UK and Miss St)
2) AU - Butch Thompson (UGA, AU, Miss St)
3) Miss St - Andy Cannizaro (LSU)
4) SCar - Chad Holbrook (SCar)
5) Bama - Bohannon (UK and AU)

Would be a surprise if he ends up being the choice. He's a smart guy and has spent most of his career at private institutions. Has had eventual success wherever he's been after taking over programs that were down. Just not sure the recruiting prowess is there to compete in the cut throat world of SEC baseball.

He's had OCCASIONAL, eventual success wherever he's been. This program won't wait another 5-7 years for a regional birth when it's already been 12 years. 5 regionals (including this season) in 21 yrs as a head coach won't go over well in the press release. An unproven assistant would look better on paper due to the unknown potential. With Walters I feel like you at least have a glimpse of what you're getting.

I would be ok if Burke got the job. Considering Tennessee hasn't been past Hoover in 10 seasons, this isn't the most attractive job.

Any job that pays several hundred thousand dollars a year is an attractive job. There are only so many big boy college baseball jobs that pay like this.

While the guys who are already making that kind of money at their current school may not be interested in taking on the UT job, there are plenty of coaches who are.
