Tennessee Buzz: Candidates To Watch - Kendall Rogers

Any job that pays several hundred thousand dollars a year is an attractive job. There are only so many big boy college baseball jobs that pay like this.

While the guys who are already making that kind of money at their current school may not be interested in taking on the UT job, there are plenty of coaches who are.

Exactly, if you want to be serious about winning and find a serious candidate then throw $750k on the table and a lot will listen. .

Many of us on here are serious about winning but I don't believe 750K will ever hit a table that a potential baseball coach for UT will ever see. Not enough big boys interested in the program for that to happen. JMHO as always!:bash::think_not:

6 yrs ago we paid $450-500k for Serrano, I imagine the needle has moved somewhat. I'd be surprised if the next coach didn't make $500k regardless of his resume or where he's coming from.

I don't understand exactly who yawl are discussing, but the Corbin's, McDonnell's, Maineri's etc... are already making that or more and they ain't leaving a place that's firing on all cylinders...Schlossnagle makes almost twice that...O'Conner was making $600,000 in 2014 when he got extended to 2021, if he stays for the duration, his contract is worth 4.95 million...but I bet it's even been extended since then...CDS was making $450,000.

Someone said coaches aren't interested in the job because it's not a great job. I'm simply saying if you threw down that kind of money you could attract anyone not already at a consistent top 15-20 job. I'm not suggesting you overpay but if Bohannon for example has an offer on the table from Bama for $450k and from UT for $600k I don't see him willingly leaving $150k/yr on the table to take the Bama job because it's a little easier.

Gotcha...:good!:

Best guess 125-150

Very good guess. Florida University System database says he and Martin Jr. each make 130,000. They probably make a little more than that with apparel and camp money.

I found a link to 2012 UT athletics salaries that was published in the Orlando Sentinel and it listed Bergeron at 160k and Mosiello at 130k. Not a very good return on investment.

Burke confirmed he wants the job today.
247 also says sources have said Bragga (Yuck), Riser (SELA), and McMullen (UVA asst) are candidates among others.

Not sure where this bragga stuff is being generated from but Currie or someone may want to talk to some of the team about him. I know one of the pitchers that they do NOT want to lose and he will be gone the next day if they hire him....book it.

My hope is that it is him trying to get a raise.

I think he's the heir apparent at FSU...he's just got to ride it out.

I would say no doubt if not for Martin Jr. Bell would be a shoo in if not for that I think. No more than he makes he would be foolish not to look at UT if they want sit down. :clapping:

Friend on mine in cookville says he has tired to get other jobs every year recently and never gets a look.

Hire the Maryland guy and be done with it. I don't get why people here don't want him.

You would rather the Maryland guy than say...Calvi?

I like that he has had success at places that don't necessarily succeed very often in baseball.

My biggest concern would be how much of his success can be attributed to Bakich and the move to the Big 10 from the ACC? Assuming he didn't run guys off, his 2 most successful seasons would have been comprised of Jr's and Sr's recruited by Bakich. He's doing well at Michigan now and has the Clemson and Vandy ties so he's been around good baseball.

And I could be wrong. Maybe it is that toxic of a job but typically egos and enough money overcome any concerns.

I don't think it's toxic outside of the SEC...inside the SEC with SEC coaches and top assistants that understand the conference well, toxic might be too strong, but certainly it's a lower tier job right now with some pundits/national commentators who question the University's commitment to baseball. I'm not saying that is correct, but it's out there.

I do think the job that CDS took 6 years ago was probably toxic, he just wanted to get out of California. If my memory is correct, Holbrook took the time to come interview out of respect and appreciation, but I don't think he was serious about leaving SC.

At this point, I'm just really hoping for a solid hire who understands the landscape of SEC Baseball right now and where we fit and what it's going to take to get the job done and this person either needs to be a heck of a recruiter or has to hire someone.

For all of the decent recruiting classes CDS and Co. got, neither CDS or anyone on the staff got any national recognition for recruiting prowess. I think CDS is a good coach and I know he changed his system to try to make things work, but if I'm honest with myself, just based on the eye test, we just didn't have ENOUGH talent.

Above all else, that problem has to be addressed or nothing will change.
