Tennessee Buzz: Candidates To Watch - Kendall Rogers

I've recited Bakich's resume so much I'm starting to sell myself on him. I don't think I'd complain about he or Calvi at this point. Bakich's attitude is what really appeals to me. He sounds like a grinder and no BS guy.

"I know it sounds odd, but wins and losses have never been important to me. I wanted to change the attitude of this team first and foremost, and you can already see that happening. Our seniors have done a great job of leading this team, and the transformation has already been made."

"In 2004, Vanderbilt increased its batting average from .258 the previous season to .304, the largest jump in school history."

I was looking back at Bakich too, and the numbers I stated earlier have to be off. I got them from his wiki page, but once you google him it appears he has done much better. They are 42-15 this year.

That's where I got his numbers from as well. Even wiki shows his Maryland teams improving all 3 years and his UM team has as well, in the loss column. I like the fact that he has 8 yrs of HC experience and is still on 39. He has a lot left in the tank. He probably knows Tim Corbin better than anyone and knows what it'll take to compete against him. He's making in the neighborhood of $350k at UM, I would think between $500-$600k could secure him.

I've certainly been surprised before, but with everything I'm hearing the last few days, I'll be very surprised if UT hires anyone other than Ash Lawson.

I'd expect an announcement on the hire, Lawson or otherwise, next Wednesday or Thursday.

Currie really goes out on a limb when hiring. Fire tennis coach to promote an assistant and native son. Effectively fires the baseball coach to bring back an assistant and native son. I'm becoming more and more glad I didn't donate and renew tickets this season. If they're not serious about truly improving things why should I be?

Welp...that's a bit disappointing, depending on what he might do for a staff and even still...definitely outside the box I guess.

Currie will be the biggest fool in Knoxville. Well the second biggest behind Lawson.

Or maybe, literally, Calvi would rather stay at SA than come here...just using him as an example, throw any of the guys yawl have been discussing in the mix.

Factions...F'it.

Braga then.
Anyone that has actually coached in this decade.

That's what I'm saying...we have these factions of boosters...mind you Lawson was brought up last time...whether it's Burke, Lawson, Helton who must have obviously made it clear he doesn't want to be HC or he'd have been announced, lol...

I don't get it...If we are really spending 4M on baseball why is Lawson even on the list?

I'm still skeptical, but that's what I'm hearing. Currie is being led in that direction by several prominent people.

Helton is in no way interested at all. He has advocated for another candidate.

I'm told by someone separate about the Wednesday timeline. Will be interesting to see if a potential change at South Carolina changes anything about the hire or the timeline.

Have you had a chance to look at either of the threads regarding the UT Baseball expenses/revenues? Does any of it seem ball park to you?

I would expect something on the SC front late Monday, but if it's Lawson, why the wait? (just in theory, I mean).

Real glad you are back around DP, been reading you on IT, thx.

Me too, the only thing I can think is that Cockrell isn't interested or we can't afford him...or Currie, who has worked here before is going with the factions...I dunno, golly geez.

I would like him over Burke or lawson but I don't like that he has no college experience.

I agree with you. We just let a guy go that did all the school/off the field stuff right, had a great college resume, recruited okay, nothing to brag about but UT did brag about it every year, had good relationships with Team USA and summer ball in the Cape...

On top of that, he'd apparently been given more resources than any of us knew...and we are possibly going to hire a guy who has never coached in the ACC or the SEC, never recruited those type players, his experience is finding kids that are good enough to NOT go to college...

sorry, now I'm just venting...

Where does Lawson coach--or does he? Is he a scout? Would be a bit of strange hire if he is not coaching a team now.

Mostly a scout. Coached 1 year at Tenn under Raleigh. Was the head coach at Tn Wesleyan in the early 2000s.

Sorry. I ain't familiar with him

A couple of years ago, when he was at TCU, before he got to WVA, he wrote, for lack of a better phrase, a paper...Mind you he was still in the south....about why northern teams have such a disadvantage in college baseball.

He wanted to move the start of the college baseball season and he made many great points....of course, it's not the best scenario if you are from the south...but it was compelling, and at it's core we would play college baseball on the 4th of July. The problem with his proposal is simple...it makes too much sense.

Lol. I do remember that now. He is way ahead of lawson or Burke IMO.
