Elite or serviceable? She had 5 points, 2 assist and 2 rebounds yesterday. I think of of elite as 15 pts, 12 assist on a nightly basis.Destinee Wells is the starting PG and it’s really not debatable.
Tennessee staff seems to have figured this out but through the off-season they weren’t able to integrate elite guard skill sets from Destinee and Jewel into their system.
Every single game this year Destinee has made elite passes to our posts they just couldn’t catch or finish that not one of the opposing starting PGs have made or even
attempted. The same will happen against ND and OSU, and the folks that have discredited Wells will be silent for the rest of the season just the way a relative of a LV for life just put VolNation and Social Media fans on blast about being silent after a Top 25 win lol!!
Rickea is a #1 option. Jewel is a #1 option. Destinee is a #1 option. They have to run the offense through either of these players based on what the defense is showing.. not just put it in the guard(s) hands when things start to break down to attempt a 50/50 shot. This has to be established in practice and a real game plan developed around these elite guards to play with and off of the post that thrived in Belmont and Wake Forest against Power 5 schools. Wells at Belmont out played the #1 portal player. Spear dropped 34 pts on the #1 portal player.
This offensive system is not built to play through the guards which doesn’t maximize the skills of Destinee and Jewel.
Each player has shown what they are capable of with the ball in their hands.
It’s now the staff responsibility to look for balance offensively and run this offense through their guards and not just play almost exclusively inside-out. Destinee and Jewel aren’t players that you just put around the 3pt line.
They have high level pick and roll IQ to dribble drive and attack as a scorer or facilitator.
Tennessee has hasn’t had this combo of guard skill and pure shooting since the legendary Pat era.
WCBB and the SEC is lucky former 5-star McD All-American Talaysia Cooper is redshirting this season because she would’ve been a 2-way player with elite skills at the 1-3 in the mix.
Don’t be surprised if Jewel and Destinee return in 2024.
This is just the beginning. Scary hours
Not trying to be snarky, just seeking a little common ground, but how does an “elite” backcourt generate a 9 to 18 assist to turnover ratio. I understand some of those turnovers were on the receiving end of firm passes, but not sure that represents elite play from the guards.Elite. And you quoting me doesn’t move me. That’s all you provide to this forum constantly focusing on opinions of someone else that doesn’t align with your opinion.
You post what’s convenient. I post facts.
30 points in 5 straight games=facts.
Career high average of 19.5 pts per game=facts.
Basketball analysts know it.
Game announcers know it.
You can quote me until the key on your keyboard and clicker on the mouse wear out.. not changing anything I have to say about the elite guards and this system.
A lot of the players you all throw up stats about everyday wouldn’t average those numbers in a system that doesn’t incorporate their skill set.
=common sense
Twitter is where I go when I’m in the mood to be incensed by idiocy. Not often. There are plenty of resources where I can go study individual games and peruse statistics. Bringing all that together to create centered realistic takes and express them is where the challenge lies. Unfortunately, I feel this particular forum has a tendency to maintain particular cliques. But, still the best I’ve found that remains open to the full spectrum of opinion. Very rarely does anyone get put on “Time Out” for posting a contrarian view. And for that I’m grateful.People here on this board are typically at an extreme.. as a poster recently I’ve taken a more balanced position of how I view this team. I’ve pointed out the deficiencies with the coaching and system. I believe there’s a way to fill the gaps and make progress. There always is.
But I came across a SEC school fan on social media that has folks thinking they are the leader of WCBB fan club in particularly the SEC.
Some of their comments are so hypocritical it’s not even funny. That’s why a former LV for life relative call them out yesterday about criticizing after a loss and being silent after a Top 25 win.
Oklahoma beat Ole Miss at full strength.
Oklahoma beat Virginia.
Virginia took it to LSU while folks talk about stats of a player.
Tennessee beat Oklahoma without one of Top 5 players in WCBB and folks talking about they escaped.
The dumbest comment I seen this season on social media.
This is why outside of a certain sector people don’t take SEC basketball serious.
Tennessee is one of the few reasons SEC WCBB is even relevant.

I agree. I am also grateful.
Twitter is where I go as well. I guess this SEC School fan is the designated ringleader of the SEC WCBB fan club.
The moment they tweeted out that Tennessee escaped with a win, I knew from that point forward this is a fake coalition of “SEC” supporters.
How did Tennessee escape with a win without one of the Top 5 players in WCBB?
I guess escaped is the new meaning of earned.
As stated, during this same moment they were celebrating LSU, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Ole Miss etc.
Oklahoma has beat both Ole Miss and Virginia who LSU barely beat yesterday.
That is the kind of stuff that has tried to stir the direction of content on this board. I’m not against opposing perspectives and ideas but Tennessee gets held to a different standard in the category of “impressing” both its fans and foes.
There is a medium.
And it’s a fact, Tennessee is ONE of a handful (2 or 3) reasons that the sports world even takes SEC BASKETBALL serious.
…pretty sure Husky Nan hangs out around here under an alias. Good for her.Twitter is where I go when I’m in the mood to be incensed by idiocy. Not often. What planet are you living on? 12 assists? Show me any college player putting out 12 assists a night. I think six to eight assists for a non-scoring guard is about as high as I've ever seen in the SEC and we've had an awful lot of good point guards come through the SEC. Nika Muhl come your broke I'll sue birds assist record last year I'm curious to see what that number was. That's one of the all-time great point guards in the sport.Elite or serviceable? I did retract the additional 4 when seeing Clark is at 8 a game and 30 points. That’s Elite…got double the points. What planet are you living on? 12 assists? That's fair but Caitlin Clark without Monica csuninski this year won't average eight per game when she gets into the Big 10. And as for Nika muhl she averaged 7.88 last year and that beat the all-time leader in UConn history Sue Byrd. The 2027 guard we have coming they actually compared to Sue Byrd regularly. Your top point guards are generally 4-6 per game. Look at the amount of passes Destinee has put into people's hands and they couldn't handle or they missed the shot. Those connections will come as a season progresses and her numbers will go up. Right now she has one of the best assist/turnover ratios in the SECI did retract the additional 4 when seeing Clark is at 8 a game and 30 points. That’s Elite…got double the points.
We are ranked higher than #22 Oklahoma.....
