*****Tennessee Football Coaching Search BIG BOARD [updated 12.4 10:47 am]

“Sometimes the quickest answer is not the best answer. Sometimes you just have to take your time and see the big picture. You only have one chance to make this decision and so he needs to take whatever time he feels is best to make the right one."

Patience is a virtue in Pruitt's hire

Unfortunately this fan base's "patience" level has been eroded over the past 10 years...

Just gotta hope that it isnt waiting for Propst. From all I have heard, Rush would be a good addition to the staff and is a brilliant coach (with baggage) but no way as going from HS to an SEC OC.

Worst case scenario is we hire Rush Propst and although I'd be a little disappointed with that hire, I think we'd be fine. Football isn't complicated. You don't have to be a wizard to be a good offensive coordinator. People get too caught up in the hiring of assistant coaches. It's important, but there's a lot of good coaches out there to choose from. From High School, to JUCO, to FCS, to FBS and the NFL... there's a LOT of good coaches out there.

That's a ridiculous claim.

Name an OC that is currently available that would be a solid hire outside of Canada? Pretty clear Briles isn't coming here because of OL Coach. Enos is all but promoted to stay at Bama. Freeze to Liberty. Yuri using us for pay raise at Okie State...

Please name some solid OC's that are available.... I'll wait...

James Franklin has made a living from hiring no name OCs that end up BALLING. If you can coach ball then you can coach ball. Doesnt matter the level. Sit down and chill out. This hire doesnt have to be flashy. It has to be right. The only person that knows whats right for this team is Pruitt.

James Franklin has an offensive background and has been a playcaller up until he hired Moorhead at PSU....

Since Pruitt has no offensive background, this hire needs a solid, homerun hire... Not that hard to understand that. Making that comparison is really dumb.

Greg Roman, Joe Osovet, Steve Sarkisian, Derek Dooley, Eliah Drinkwitz, Jeff Scott, Eddie Gran, Phil Longo, Larry Fedora, Chris Wienke, Mike Sanford, Rush Propst and dozens of other guys most people have never heard of from JUCO and FCS ranks.

I am starting to wonder what really is going on with the search. Listening to Austin Price on the Swain show he states that we interviewed Briles, Lebby, and Yurich last week. Kind of goes against what is being told by Matthews.

Yes we have our guy that is why we have talked to several other coaches, makes sense.

Define good if you are going to include Greg Roman (fired), Eddie Gran (fired from SC), Joe Osovet (no other school has approached him and he doesn’t even have a coaching role at UT), Derek Dooley (fired from UT is never going to come here), Chris Weinke (never been one). You can’t be serious for the vast majority of those names

Thats what I am trying to figure out. You have two different stories. One that we have our guy and have had our guy. Then the story that we have talked to 6 coaches now. So does anyone actually know what is going on? Seems like no one knows. There have been no real good leaks either.

Thoughts on Al Borges or A. J. Milwee?

I mean, these guys ran the absolute dead last offense in FBS (Borges) and the 4th worst (Milwee) in 2018 so why not at this point?

Unlimited growth potential in both, baby!!!

Yes, I realize Borges has some SEC experience.........

I'm very serious, but I'm not going to debate a hypothetical list of candidates. The point is that Matt Canada is not the only decent option.

edit: for some reason my quote of @landscapingvol didn't stick.

CJP and the AD have known since October or early November that they wern't keeping Helton, no excuse for this to STILL be going on this late in December. No wonder we are laughed at daily.

Battered Vol Syndrome is a real thing.

Tennessee fans going through coaching searches are like a motorcycle rider getting back on the bike for the 3rd or 4th time after a crash. It just makes you skittish.
