Tennessee Lady Vol News

If she keeps this and her rebounding up let's see if she actually gets the DPOY award πŸ™„ ... because she should have gotten at least Co- defensive last year 😀.

I remember someone on her says "well she just blocks shots why would she get the award"πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ ... when a team has to literally change their game plan because of it that is a DPOY type person. This year her rebounding is UP so we shall see πŸ‘€ Might also be in the running for National DPOY😁

Her entire career has been about not getting enough shots per season. She would be leading the nation in field goal percentage if she had enough field goals made to qualify. She is close to qualify this year just needs a few more attempts per game.

Watching the last few games it looks like the players have been instructed to run the offense through her. She is being encouraged to pass it back out to open shooters if teams collapse on her, which they are. If the wings and guards keep getting her the ball in down low, and if we can knock down those open 3's, she will get her shots.

Yes most teams are willing to send two to even three players in there when she gets the pass. I liked how she was throwing it out for the open three. I think the way she gets more shot attempts is her willingness to take that elbow shot and 8 to 10 footer in front of the goal. She has a very good looking shot from there and could score a lot of points if she becomes more willing to take a few.

NET Ranking Women'sCollege Basketball | WarrenNolan.com

Tennessee number 10 in the Net we should play Chattanooga, ETSU, and Alabama more often. We've moved up from 19 to 10 by just winning those three games.

From what I understand about the Net this is the time of year that it really starts to become accurate. Takes a while for it to gain statistical significance. The article I read said the predictions start to take shape around Jan 1 and are fairly accurate by the end of February in terms of predicting NCAA placement.

I really like the new system. It appears more accurate and more fair. The variables we know about make sense and are good measure of how good teams actually are. If we can pick up some road wins coming up that will pump us forward quite a bit. Especially if we win by double digits.

Winning on the road and how you win on the road seems to be a big factor. I’ve loved that we have had so many home games to start the season. Hopefully we can keep that same energy on the road.

That committee picks top 16 comes out sometimes this month I think it is what I use the most. Being in the top 16 and getting to play at home two game hopefully this year is the goal.

That should definitely be a goal! Would be great for the fans to have those games at home again. I know we would have an excellent turnout.

We can definitely get there if we can get through this conference schedule with something like 12 and 4. Of course also depending on covid which I don't think will be a factor in march.

SEC is going to be tough! So far I love the grit and determination of this team. Really think we can have a top 2 finish if they play as a team and keep fighting.

If we have to play very many of the top teams without Horston/Burrell it will be tough. But so far everyone on the team has shown they can step up in various ways when needed. Everyone tries to do their job well, whatever that may be. Collectively makes this a much better, more fundamental, basketball team.

South Carolina dropping that game to MIZZOU should be some added fuel for our team. You hate to be inspired by someone else’s failure, but if we can win all the games we are supposed to and lose only to quality teams on the road, if at all, we could set ourselves up for regular season champs. Would be great to start taking back some of those SEC titles!

And I might add, if for some reason we have to play ANY games without Tamari I do not like our chances. She is so important to what we do defensively. And more recently, offensively, she is really demanding the ball now and hunting looks at the basket. I believe she will average a double double and 4 blocks in SEC play.

What I said at the beginning was win at home that is eight wins. Go .500 on the road and your 12 and 4 that was the expectation at the beginning of the season. I still think we can do that well. Other than at SC and Georgia thought we got a favorable road schedule. We really don't need to play anymore team without Horston and hopefully Burrell will be back soon two weeks or so.

Playing without her is terror and was one of the problems we didn't solve in the off season. We needed a backup post badly Green is a terrific player, but undersized. The freshmen not quite ready for SEC.

I agree, I do think Striplin can be that player, but she has to get some mean to her. She’s coordinated and has a great shot. Just needs to relax into the offense and really needs to start getting more physical on defense and especially the defensive glass.

Still has a tendency to turn and look because she’s used to just being able to jump and grab the rebound. She has to find a body first, then the rebound.

Karo also has a nice wingspan and probably brings more range than Tamari or Keyen but we’ve yet to see it. Would like to see her get more looks at the elbow when she’s in.

Edit: don’t want to totally discount Emily either. I thought she played really well in the minutes she had against Chatty and ETSU. She looks to me like she’s really been working in practice and working on her body. Her speed did look better and her defense without fouling was better. The opponent was not good and tired, but she was aggressive offensively and finished. If she can improve her conditioning and speed I could see her carving 10 minutes by the end of the season against some of the bottom half teams. We could really use those relief minutes to preserve Tamari as the season progresses.

For the first time ever I thought she looked disappointed Thursday. She only got in for the last 15 seconds and she had a bit of a long face after the horn. Makes me think she’s been working her tail off. Hope she sticks with it, because we need her, and it will pay off!

We needed another post player this season with experience to allow Striplin to grow her game. Next season we need that player even more as it is Keys last season. I really think of Karoline as a four more than a five she is listed at 6'3" but is more like an inch shorter. Keyen's last season no one coming in the freshman class have to go out and find a player should be several available.
