Tennessee Lady Vol News

Absolutely. I have been hoping for a #7 seed any way as it sets us up as a favorite for the first game and the second would be against a #2 seed rather than a #1 seed. I do think it is possible if we pull one major upset the rest of the season or SEC tourney, beat Texas A&M, and any make it to the SEC tourney semis. If the two teams we play are revenge games against MTSU and Indiana as suggested in this bracket, that is a bonus!
Oh please, oh please, oh PLEASE throw us this bone, basketball gods!

@DeerPark12 Do we know if the SEC will add rowing as a conference sport next year? Tennessee, Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma currently compete in the Big 12 but are looking for a new home next year. The SEC would need 6 members to get the AQ for NCAAs.

Still TBD. The SEC bylaws don't permit adding schools as affiliate members in any sport, which is what the four programs with rowing wanted to do. The hope was to add Tulsa and ODU as affiliate members, but they couldn't wait any longer and jumped to the Big 12.

Tennessee can get a bye in SEC Tourney by winning two of the three remaining games. They can get a bye by winning one and one more Alabama loss. If we only win one more game and Alabama wins their last three we finish fifth.
Unfortunately both 4th and 5th seeds means playing the best team in the country for the 3rd time in less than a month. If we can't get to third, which would be a real stretch, 6th would actually be a better seed. Esp better than 5th, where I think we're headed, which means an extra game AND another game w SC. At least at 6th we're out of SCs bracket. That's how the season has gone for KJH.

Top three are going to be Sc LSU and Ole Miss. LSU and Ole Miss do not have games left that they will lose. Even if we win versus LSU they have to lose again and that doesn't seem likely. Ole Miss has Missouri, Kentucky, and Arkansas and would have to lose two. LSU has us then Georgia and Kentucky so we'll be fourth or fifth. Miss St at six losses still have some tough games likely to lose again maybe twice. One win secures fifth. Two wins secures fourth for us.

Exactly. And 4th or 5th is really no prize for us. It's just how our luck has run all year. Actually, 5th may be better after all, we may need the extra game for our NCAA resume.

The bad luck is not so much playing SC so close together, tho that sucks, it's playing them twice at all. Probably won't do that again for years.

Well fourth is better you at least get an extra days rest and don't have to play an extra night. This was one of our toughest SEC schedules ever. Sc twice, Ole Miss, Bama, Texas A&m, Miss St, all on the road. Not that we shouldn't have won at any of those places. Teams that got home and home with Missouri and Georgia and Kentucky were the schedule winners.

Home and aways will probably go away next season with Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC. Probably for the best. Especially for teams that have a fixed SEC rival that is usually a cupcake vs. middle of the pack teams stuck playing SC, LSU or Tennessee twice every year.

Not luck. You control your own destiny and we didn’t win the games we needed to in order to ensure a double bye.

Have heard lots of excuses about the A&M game but it’s still a big, fat, ugly loss. Not one that should have happened. Sick players or not, travel woes or not. You have to beat the teams you are definitely better than or you’re in trouble in the SEC.

If we finish outside of the top 4 it’s further proof for me that it’s time for a coaching change.

Yep, just the luck KJH has had the last couple of years. Brutal.

Unless we need the extra game for NCAA seeding.

Agree to disagree. It's both. Playing SC 3 times in less than a month is epic scheduling bad luck. Yes we tanked at TAM. But if our margin for error wasn't so damn thin from injury, illness, etc that slip up wouldn't have been so costly.

I'd bet money that will be no coaching change this year.

3 Losses would put us in 6TH
and once again, in jeopardy of missing the NCAA tourney

we have proven the selection committee wrong too often to take such a risk

with a chance at 3...
Not much of a chance. We'd have to win out, OMiss would have to lose another game since they have the tiebreak over us. We have an unbelievably brutal sched left, they have a very easy one.

We're going in the SEC tourney 4th or 5th, depending on what Alabama does.

Were locked into fourth or fifth even if we lost all three games. Not completely, but considering who has to play who it would still look that way. Yes we could get second or third by winning all three games which would give us third and Ole Miss lose one would give us second.

Lose all three (heaven forbid) and we'll probably need an extra SEC tourney game to get off the NCAA bubble.

But I really don't think that happens. I believe we'll take care of TAM at home. Beating LSU would be the cherry on top, but still have to play SC twice. Probably beating LSU would boost us just enough to send us to the dreaded 8,9 seed in the tourney.

If we end up playing a #! seed in the round of 32, we will have played the undefeated #1 team 3x, the defending national champ, and a #1 seed in the last month of the season. Please don't say you play who's in front of you. Of course you do. But this would make any coach cry.

Just point out how locked in we seem to be to that fourth or fifth spot. We can't play our way out of it or play our way upwards other than a sweep of the last three.

I'm not really sure how much that would help. If we're the #5 seed, we'd play the winner of the #12/13 game, which is looking like it would be Kentucky, Missouri, or Georgia, whose current NET ratings are #144, #78, and #96. I guess there's potential there to give us another top-100 win, which I think is something the committee looks at (record against top-25, top-50, and top-100 teams). Our current record against the top 100 is 9-9, so if we win 2 out of the next 3, we finish 11-10 against the top 100, and of course if we lose 2 of the next 3, it's 10-11, so I guess an extra top 100 win would at least give us a neutral, instead of a losing, record.

A blow-out win in the SEC tournament would also boost our NET rating, but that seems unlikely as 1) these lower seeds always seem to play like they have nothing to lose (as they don't) and 2) even if we got a big lead, I'm sure we'd rest our starters to be fresh with the potential for back-to-back-to-back-to-back games.
