Tennessee Lady Vol News

With what you said, Dawn Staley and Kim Mulkey have never won a national championship without Dominate inside post players because they are reliable.

So you are saying that the Horizon league and the SEC are comparable in some way with athletic ability, basketball IQ, skill, and size? Not many post players over 6-2 in that league and not highly skilled at that. Of course she is going to have higher stats.
No, I am saying that Emily is not immobile bc shot-blocking takes quickness to get to the spot,,,in ANY league

Two things stand out to me here. Jewel's body, man, so much better. They've always said it takes 2 offseasons to get in proper shape, we saw that last year w Sara, and Jewel's second season has arrived.

The other thing is Cooper, wow. She has matured in every way and also looks in top shape and on top of her game.

The video content is picking up now, and like last year it's really good. Getting me excited to get things rolling.

Tennessee looks different and plays different than I’ve seen in years.
A fresh start for highly talented players and coaches that have come together on Rocky Top. A new beginning. Whichever way it’s framed there’s a resurgence of the feel good aura surrounding Lady Vol basketball.
I sense a team of players and coaches that through practice, building chemistry, and bonding off/on the court have developed their identity.
For all the talk about the hiring of Coach Caldwell and how the system will translate
the Lady Vol historic program is built again to thrive.
Credit to the players for having the mindset and setting a standard to be competitive. Practice is a winning factor. The way this team is practicing is rare. I haven’t seen it this way not just in Knoxville but across WBB. The best teams no matter the talent level are the ones that play the way they practice. Before the preseason footage, there’s been a lot of talk about a lack of height and size which is false.
The film has always been available and as we see from recent practice highlights Coop, Whitehorn, Spearman, Boyd, Ayodele, and Latham are players that PLAY big. And boy oh boy they have multiple quick and skilled shooters around them.
This is a deep team.
A really good team.

I'm afraid Josh H's team is giving a scary preview right now of what happens in the uptempo offense when you don't control tempo.

Correct I just don’t see where we can equate football to women’s basketball in any way, shape or form.
It's the overall sports concept of being married to a system with no meaningful plan of what to do when the opposition denies that system. Your mileage obviously varies, but my original post was that JH was a cautionary tale last night for CKC, who seems very highly systemized. It's always been my opinion that alot of this year's success for the LVs will depend on having a solid backup plan.

You’re always using the word system. I really don’t think what Kim does is a “system” so much as a “style”

She wants her team to play fast, but adapt, get up and make their opponent very uncomfortable. That’s what most really good basketball teams do.

It’s not a strategy, it’s a way of life. Not dissimilar to how Pat coached. You either got out there and gave 100% or you got the stare and a chair.

For years we saw players get away with bad defense, worse offense, turnovers and bad body language. Kim is going to let them play through positive mistakes but if they aren’t giving it I can almost guarantee they’ll be having a seat.

She appears to be preparing the entire team as well, not just 5-7 players. Pretty clear she expects excellence from all of them, not just the chosen few. We had too many on the bench the last few seasons who had no expectations, when they were called upon to play it was obvious.

I'm curious what your reaction would be to a middle SEC finish and a short stay in the NCAA tourney. Also you seem annoyed at the mention of other teams being just as good or better. You have so much confidence in the roster, would you consider not competing for the championship a failure? Would you consider CKC on the hot seat at that point?

It's interesting to me that those most supportive of the CKC hire are the ones putting the most pressure on for immediate results. Don't you want to give her a little grace and a little time?

the only way she sees the exit is if the bottom completely falls out....bottom half of the SEC in rank,,, out of the top 25,,, opts for NIT,,, No HS recruits of notariety,,,if situations like these happens,,,Danny's plan will be revealed

Agreed. Those Kelliestans expecting the same bar as Kellie’s last year, as the bar for Kim in her first year are just being spiteful.

NB4…but, but Danny said… irrelevant. He’s in marketing. The business of commercials and appearances.

I agree. Nothing will happen unless the bottom completely falls out this year. She did beat a bad SEC Florida team last year without a single player that would be in our top ten players. I am expecting a good season.

I don't think she gets fired even then. I think it would take a complete player revolt or some kind of moral scandal, both of which are wildly unlikely, to get her ousted after just one year.

That this is such an acceptable part of our society today makes me sick. IMO there aren't categories of lying. I'd love to be marketed to honestly without having my intelligence insulted. This is one of the reasons no one trusts anything anymore. But that's just me.
