“We are eager to return the Lady Vols to a championship level, and we're confident that Kim Caldwell is the coach who can lead us back to the top.". - Danny White 4/7/24I don't think she gets fired even then. I think it would take a complete player revolt or some kind of moral scandal, both of which are wildly unlikely, to get her ousted after just one year.
That this is such an acceptable part of our society today makes me sick. IMO there aren't categories of lying. I'd love to be marketed to honestly without having my intelligence insulted. This is one of the reasons no one trusts anything anymore. But that's just me.
That’s not the part in question. Question is over him saying the return to championship level would happen immediately, not on a two or more year plan.“We are eager to return the Lady Vols to a championship level, and we're confident that Kim Caldwell is the coach who can lead us back to the top.". - Danny White 4/7/24
He wasn’t lying. Therein lies the problem.
I did find this beauty though…Yeah. I couldn’t find that quote.
I will eat a cat turd out of my litter box live on facebook for you all to watch if TN hires Marshall's coach. Danny White does not fire a former Lady Vol who went to two sweet 16's to hire a coach who's been in D1 for one year. NOT. HAPPENING. It's counter intuitive to everything we know to be true in how he sees the program.
Sometimes the enemy of great can be good. As a women's basketball program, we want to get back to competing for Southeastern Conference and National Championships. Our student-athletes have that ambition, and we are not on a three-, four- or five-year plan; they talked about wanting to win next year. We wanted to make sure we are positioning ourselves to be competitive right away.Yeah. I couldn’t find that quote.
Speaking as Kellie Jolly supporter.Holly and Kellie didn't have player revolts. They had fan revolts....IJS
That’s my point. The getting back to winning championships next year is the goal of the team, not the expection of the we (AD). That appears, from my reading, to be two to three years. Our student-athletes have that ambition, and we are not on a three-, four- or five-year plan; they talked about wanting to win next year.
White said straight up in response to the team goal (and not part of it) "we are not on a three, four, or five year plan". Also, "We wanted to make sure we are positioning ourselves to be competitive right away." Right after he talked about being great, not good. That’s my point. Of course next year would be fine, I’m def here for it!
I agree with that absolutely. The stance I disagree with is that if Kim has failed to win a natty by the end of year three, that she should be shown the door. I also do not believe those expectations are etched in stone by Danny.(With this hire) We wanted to make sure we are positioning ourselves to be competitive right away.
The question of the original post was whether she should be shown the door after ONE unsuccessful year and of course she shouldn't. At three, it would depend on alot, certainly not just a natty, but it is absolutely what DW said. And again, never meant. Just blow harding. The stance I disagree with is that if Kim has failed to win a natty by the end of year three, that she should be shown the door.
We’ll have to disagree as to what his actual expectations are and where he has placed the bar. We are definitely reading the same quote, taking away two entirely different interpretations.White said straight up in response to the team goal (and not part of it) "we are not on a three, four, or five year plan". Also, "We wanted to make sure we are positioning ourselves to be competitive right away." Right after he talked about being great, not good.
The general interpretation at the time was it was used car salesman bombast. But if taken as spoken truth, it's hard not to see it as him promising the athletes (and us) success right away.
But yes, I know he didn't actually mean it. Thus my frustration at being talked to like a gulible child.
Now, I believe, we’re getting closer to the unspoken issue. Perceived lack of NIL support for the LV program from the AD on behalf of Kellie. The question of the original post was whether she should be shown the door after ONE unsuccessful year and of course she shouldn't. I never perceived it having anything to do w NIL. Just overspeaking the expectations to justify the risky hire. Now, I believe, we’re getting closer to the unspoken issue. Perceived lack of NIL support for the LV program from the AD on behalf of Kellie.

Horse dead, water under the bridge, only lived again in terms of the discussion of how an unsuccessful yr one would be received.
But hopefully we'll never have to find out! Here's to a successful year one.
Report: Indiana women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren turns down Tennessee jobI agree with that absolutely. Report: Indiana women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren turns down Tennessee job
Firing before giving Kim 4 aleast preferably 5 years.
Would make it harder to get a coach who doesn't have Tennessee ties.
Teri didn't want the Job with the fan base high expectations can not blame her.
Kim deserve time firing to quickly could turn Tennessee Lady Vols into post Phil Farmer of bad coaching hires.
