Tennessee Lady Vol News

Didn't you catch the word some posters.
Didn't say they was more Tess Darby supporters or hater's.
Don't have you in my memory bank list in my mind of trashers of Tess.
Just my opinion Tess has her fair share and then some of posters trashing her.
@Orange_Mamba
Here the back story.
Just use your post.
Should haven't made seen like your post was bashing Tess Darby.

I was delighted to see Whitehorn, Cooper, Spencer, Spearman, and Latham as the starters. The next off the bench were Darby, Spear, and Puckett, with Hollingshead and Boyd the subs. No siting of Favor, Ace one minute.

I felt the same about the starting lineup, and they really got us going, beginning with Whitehorn's steal and layup. She was due a terrific game and the timing for having one was perfect. Cooper is Cooper. Just ... wow.😀

Spearman couldn't blink out there without getting whistled for a foul, and that pretty much took her out of the game until the very end. Same for Latham.

I have to wonder what's going on with Favor. Could it be she not practicing well? Just seems strange to me she's getting zero minutes when I thought she was showing a lot of moxy in previous games. If she doesn't play this next game.... 😲 Surely shecwill!

I figure Spear and Puckett will have plenty of chances to score some points in the next few games. We need them to -- badly. It'll be significantly more difficult to beat the top competition if those two are nonproductive on offense. Spear is a complete enigma. In all my years of following LVBB I can't recall a more streaky shooter than her. When she's on it's a thing of beauty, but when she's off it's more like she's invisible. She just goes away. Weird.

Hopefully this upcoming section of the schedule will help the team start making progress in upping their FGA. They're 7 games in on a new system that they have clearly bought in to, so now we just have to patiently wait out more growth pains as they start to pull it together.

I'll tell ya. There was a stretch last night I felt my heart breaking a little bit because it seemed like Iowa had the momentum and would likely finish out the game making free throws because we'd have to foul them to extend the game. Only that did not happen in reality. What a sweet relief it was to wake up this morning and, first thing, remember that our team pulled out the victory. They battled, and they actually won the dern thing! *happy sigh*

Happy Sunday, everybody. Feels good for our Tennessee Lady Vols to still be undefeated today, doesn't it?

We don't play for another week. North Carolina Central is 0 and 10 and by the time a week of practice passes we'll be ready to play. I'm thinking right now 124 to 48 something similar to Carson Newman.

Likely so. I’m thinking 130-45ish lol

Really, really hope we can use these next 5 games to put together our offense and defense before SEC play. Both are coming along but we need consistency on both ends for 40 minutes.

I'm ready for a game already never seen a Lady Vol team play since Pat Summitt that I want to see play more than this one. If we just had a couple of consistent three point shooters I would be yelling final four. In some parts of the game we turn it on and score ten points in like a minute plus then there are the two three minutes when we can't throw it in the ocean. Were going to be good though by the end of the season and it is going to be tough to knock us out of any tourney.

I believe the LVs will have a couple of consistent three point shooter by the time conference play rolls around. I agree with you that if the LVs get consistent three point shooting from a couple of players this team will be extremely tough to beat. Indeed, if the team as a whole consistently shoots the three ball at a rate of 35% to 38%, look out because a freight train is coming. GBO.

I think we have them just a matter of running plays for them specifically and not just anyone jacking one up. We actually ran some plays for Darby last night and she nailed a couple. We need to run plays for Spear and Spencer as well and still think Puckett will come around. Right now my three are Spear, Darby, and Spencer. Just a few plays per half don't take the ball out of Cooper and Whitehorn's hands as much as we are doing now.

Moved up six spots to number 26 in the net and 23 in rpi. This would equate to like a five seed if the tourney was held today. SOS way down from over 100 to 46.

We're actually #9 in RPI! Warren Nolan's site has some error where it always shows 23 for us, but our team page shows 9

We handled the #17 team and won by 10. They should jump higher

I was somewhat anxious seeing LSU and OU in the first three but have since chilled a little. Looking forward to them now.
I started feeling a bit of a chill after the thrill of the wins over FSU and Iowa when I reviewed our upcoming schedule. I don't remember when we played 4 games against top 5 teams in about a month. While extremely pleased by our progress and coach, I know our 3-point shooting will have to be much better to have a chance in these games. Although I keep hearing from coach how our 3-point shooting will get better considerably, I have a hard time imagining Jillian, Spearman. Ruby, and even a tense Puckett shooting the lights out from 3-point land. Can a team dramatically change in a matter of a few games their three-point average? I decided to check up on what happened to Marshall last year. During their first 6 games, they were way worse than us in three-point shooting, with none of the games reaching 30% made. Then their 7th game, which was Florida, the switch came on and they shot almost 40%. From the 7th game up till the last two post-season games where tired legs likely lowered their accuracy, they shot the three amazingly. They had 10 games in which they shot 40% or better during that stretch, and most others were well over the 33% benchmark. If we could only have half this improvement than they had, which would be a 7 to 8% uptick in percent made, this would make us so much more competitive. So instead of 29 to 30%, it would go to about 37%. If we had a bunch of games in the 40% range like they did, then get out of our way!! I know this team doesn't seem built for that, but neither was the Marshall team who shot miserably early in the season and barely won any games the year before. Before it felt like an unattainable wish, but now it seems like a grounded hope.

Great day to be a Tennessee fan. 🍊 LVs make a well deserved move to #15 (boom!) and higher in some stat-driven ranking. Football makes the playoffs. NCAAM rise to #1. #Everythingschool

We are not number 15 in either poll. They come out today/tomorrow.

That is just the opinion of one low budget pundit on X (Twitter.) She puts out her own top 25 weekly. No different than a random well informed fan making one up.

We will be ranked this week, but likely not that high.

Thank you, I was misled. It makes sense that will be ranked but not a movement of 10 spots in a week. Just win. And keep winning. Exciting times.

Close last year. We played #10 LSU and #1 So Car three times in a little less than a month and at the end of a long, brutal season. With the toughest road trip in the SEC, to Texas A & M in bad weather in between. A miracle that we came SO close to winning every one of those games. Looking back, the flu riddled loss to Texas A & M probably ended any hopes of a good seed and a post season run. And of course, the last, soul sucking loss to SC ended KJH career.

Not all top 5, but we also played ranked teams OK, Indiana, Notre Dame, and Ohio St back to back and without by far our best player last year. Had also played ranked Fla St (lost by 1) and the US National Team within the same month.

The year before, again, not all top 5 teams, but within about a month we played #14 Ohio State, #12 Indiana, #9 Virginia Tech and #2 Stanford.

Harper's mad overscheduling, probably due to well intentioned but badly misplaced over confidence in her team, was a big part of her downfall. She did it on purpose, Kim is stuck with it as a result of SEC scheduling and realignment.

That's so interesting, and hopeful! Like you, I'm prone to think at this point in their careers, shooters pretty much are who they are. Hard to see Ruby, Jill, Spearman, Spencer, and even Coop becoming consistent long range gunners. All are historically low % outside shooters. And our dilemia, as it has been for years, is that those who have better accuracy (Tess, Sara, Jewel) are a little slow in creating space and getting the shot off. If that could hitch up a notch, it would be great. But not holding breathe. I think the incoming recruits are our best hope.

I wonder how much of Marshall's improvement was just bc of poor competition in their league. That would explain the fall off when they got to the tourney against real defenses.

I think the key to being more successful with three point shooting is identifying your three point shooters and running plays for them to get an open look. Players that have been 20 to 25 percent shooters are not suddenly going to be able to hit 35 percent. We have some players I am comfortable with taking a three every possible opening they get. They would be Spear, Darby, Spencer, and Cooper. I still think Puckett could come around although her shot is not the same is way off and she needs to get in the gym and work on correcting it. So I am comfortable with these players as a group taking up to thirty threes a game and am confident that 90 percent of the time this group would make at least 10 of that thirty.
Other players Hollingshead, Spearman, Whitehorn, Latham, and even Boyd just not showing they have that shot in their game right now. I can see a lot more success from the three if people that have a history of shooting the three are taking that shot. If were going to win against the better teams it has to happen. We can't be letting shots go up from three from players that are making 20 percent.

This comment inspired me to check on Cora’s latest AP ballot.

…she ain’t got a vote this year. Anyone know who all is representing SEC fanbases of the current voters? I did note Becca has a vote this year. The only one I really recognized, besides Mich Vopel.
