Looks like this team is facing a tough group of fans at least on facebook. Certainly ok as team should have to prove itself. I just find it hard for so many to think winning over anybody by 48 and 40 is not impressive especially when last seasons team was beating these type teams by 25 to less. I see no reason they can't compete in the SEC guess I'll find out soon enough.
I talked to lots of folks at the first two games. This is the landscape:
1. Diehard fans who love what Pat built. They want to win, but they don’t criticize because they love the LVs.
2. Fans who will stick with the Lady Vols through feast and famine, but they are sometimes emotional wrecks because of their passion for the program.
3. Doubters who don’t want to think about the complexities of the game, recruiting, training, etc. Keep it simple.
4. Fans who want any Lady Vols’ coach to succeed. They don’t question unless there is an egregious problem like we’ve been seeing lately on other teams.
5. Fans from the Holler. No offense. Not using the label in a derogatory way at all. These fans have inherited their attachment to the Lady Vols via a few generations of folks from rural areas who loved Pat because she was down home. They loved Pat because she was no nonsense, a disciplinarian, believed in hard work, etc. (see Pat’s Dozen). Pat’s values are their values. They turned a blind eye to what they didn’t like. Not going to elaborate.
6. Kids who are dazzled by the spectacle that they see in the hype and merchandise products. They want the free t-shirts, to dance with Smokey, do the Chicken Dance at half-time, see themselves on the Jumbotron, and eat crappy food.
7. Older women who so wanted to play real basketball, but it wasn’t available for them. Women who want to see themselves reflected in the players on the court.
I could go on, but…..
