Tennessee opens as a 5.5 point favorite over NC State

I never bet on a game but that just seemed like free money even at -7.5 and I had to put some significant money on it.

If I had and risk tolerance I would have bet the +14 pts for +150. NOTE - that the win between 1-13 pts is a payout of +180 so the expectation is that TN is going to win by at least 2 TDs instead of under.
The line really had me puzzled but the total (1st half and game) might the best way to play.
IMO, the only way this game stays under both totals is if our defense is unable to get off the field and NCST has 3-4 drives of 10+ plays.

Go Vols!!

They project Tennessee only scoring 29 points. I don't believe they can hold us to that few points with our offense.

That sounds about right for a neutral game point spread.

I gamble on college football, but not on Tennessee games. It makes for bad juju. I might have to make an exception here. It's tempting as hell.

It’s tempting for me to add a zero based on what I have seen so far. Rarely have I seen something that looks like such easy money but I have to temper it with a bet that would be annoying to lose but not catastrophic. Sometimes it helps to remember that winning the money is less important than controlling ourselves.

Yes, I put a bit on the blowout but I’m happy to put the major money to cover.

I just think as the season goes on and Vegas realizes this season will be more like 2022 than last year, these will be the best odds we will get.

Which quarter?

If I were a betting man, I would bet both the over and that TN wins and covers without question. NC ST struggled at home against WCU, so I’m not sure why this computer has them holding TN to just 5 more points than what WCU was able to score or why it has them playing TN close. I wouldn’t be surprised if TN exceeds the over by itself.

Perhaps NC ST took WCU too lightly in the beginning of that game, and we will see a different team this Saturday.

NCST can score...they are a typical Dave Doeren coached team. Very methodical, stick to the plan, team. They'll get 2 or 3 scores on us from the secondary miscues and mismatch.

Issue is going to.be their defense. They know we are going to come out fast and on fire...will they be able to match that pace. I doubt it after seeing them play WCU.

One thing I'm interested in seeing is do we let up after getting a big lead early and start making the mental mistakes again.

FWIW - I see the line on this game being around 11 or 12 by the time it kicks off.
Underrated post

The reality is that NC State is more than likely going to move the ball offensively better than Chattanooga, which should limit the number of times we have the ball, bearing fumbles and such. That implies less opportunity for scoring. I also believe NC State defense > Chattanooga defense.

Some of you seem to think Chattanooga is better than NC State and thus the score should be similar.

Saturday, we beat a team that we greatly outmatched on both sides of the ball. And now some are translating that into we can score that many points against any opponent.

I think we can and should win this game but need to come back to reality - Chattanooga was just not a good team.
Nobody thinks that Chatt is better than NCST, you are delusional; literally nobdoy.

With that said….Voslby fiddy

NC State was very methodic with scoring 38 points and amassing 521 yards total offense over the 4 quarters. I really don't get the ... it is going to be a cake walk feeling.

It could very well turn out to be. It is just that 521 yards and 38 points regardless of who a team plays are not something to take lightly. If NC State is able to move the ball on our defense, that will slow down the scoring. Chattanooga could not move the ball which lead to lots of opportunities for us to score. I can not see us having more than half those opportunities against NC State.
This is as big a cake walk against a P4 team as we could hope for, until we get Florida later. This is a 20+ point victory with Nico only handing off in the 4th quarter.

Florida will be a 30+ point victory.

I know that bookmakers don't make money on losing but I don't understand why the spread is only 7.5 for this game. The stars seem to be aligned for a Vol blowout.

I am normally hesitant to jump on the hype train and I’m also hesitant to say we’re not good in years that we are mediocre. I didn’t jump on the Nico train full force like some did before the season. I knew he would be good and from what I watched of him before the season I knew he would eventually be elite. I just didn’t know how long it would take him to get to that point. After watching this past Saturday (yes I know it was UTC), I am 100% certain that Nico will be a top 5 QB at the end of the year. He will be a 1st round draft pick in the next couple years. With all that said…

Hammer Vols -6.5 and I mean absolutely HAMMER it! The players that I was in wait and see mode on before developing my opinion on this team showed me everything they needed to and I didn’t think it would happen this quick. Tyre West, Donte Thornton, Nico, Brazzell.
