Tennessee QB Harrison Bailey enters NCAA transfer portal

I agree, you don’t “love” your brothers if you’re quitting on them. What happens if Hooker gets hurt and Milton does his normal thing? We need a 3rd scholarship QB in the mix. At this point, I trust Heupel’s assessment. This kid got beat out by JG…. Enough said

You mean he’s leaving his transfer “brothers” that did the exact same thing? Get a grip.

since August 1 when 2022 portal cycle started, 200 players have entered the portal. Players can start contacting schools and schools can contact players. The earlier one goes into portal, the quicker he beats others to talking with other programs.
Thing is do you want to jump on the first thing in the portal or wait and see what's available later, that would go for any of the skilled positions.
But lets face it would you want to jump on a 3rd string QB early that couldn't beat Milton to be QB2 when you were classed as a 5* When he did play this year he didn't look that good.

Best of luck to HB. A good coach doesn’t need a “system” qb but I think that reasoning is just some made up bs. He was clearly the best qb coming out of spring ball. Hopefully he at least gets a chance somewhere. Let’s not forget Heupel had Milton as the best qb on our roster at one point.

No he wasn't. He played most of his reps with 3rd/4th stringers.
O&W game proves nothing and showed very little

This young man is going to destroy us in a game sometime in the next four years. It is the Tennessee way. And heaven help us is Hooker gets injured again and Milton is our ONLY backup. I like Coach Heupel and think he is doing some great things. But this one decision is NOT wise
I wasn’t aware it was Heupels decision for him to transfer, I thought it was up to the player to QUIT on the team in the middle of the season!

its just dialogue starting. Who knows where any of these kids going into portal end up.. of the 200 in there since August, only 8-10 have chosen a school and a school has accepted them.

Bailey will end up somewhere and play where his skill is best suited. investigating those opportunities is where he is....

Huepel didn't make this decision, Bailey did. Pro style pocket passer isn't part of Huepel's system, especially without a dominant offensive line. It would be a disaster.

What???

It’s not anymore unfair than a hotshot freshman who comes in and takes the job from an upperclassman. It happens every single year at just about every single program.

Just about every report out of summer practice had Milton looking better than the other QBs. He sucked in pressure situations and when Hooker proved to be much more efficient and got a chance, he was the guy.

Heupel wasn’t predisposed to Hooker being #2 and if Bailey had beaten out Hooker, then it would’ve been his for the taking. Problem is that he didn’t. So Hooker got the first chance to unseat Milton and ran with it.

It was unfair because Milton was absolutely garbage as a player. Yet heupel still bounced him ahead of the other. I’ll agree that if he was light years better than them…that’s how it goes. But he obviously wasn’t. And he’d barely even been on campus. Milton got the nod because of his relationship with heupel. He was the only qb heupel recruiting and he wanted him to work out. So yes…it was u fair to the others and it was a mistake by heupel. But things have a way of working themselves out and that happened with hooker. Heupel has obviously done a whole lot right and I think will be a great coach. But it was unfair to the other qbs the way he handled that competition and it flat out costs is a chance to beat Pitt and possibly Florida as well. Think about how we might feel about the season if we’d have beaten those two to start the year. Choosing Milton was a very costly mistake.

Who cares? You don’t make the rules and I’m sure HB and everyone else really don’t care what you think. Heupel should have been more clear at the beginning of the season or SOONER he had no intention of ever giving him a chance.
How do you know that he didn’t? Or maybe he did give him a path to playing time to grow in the system and he just didn’t like it.

He was never going to see the field and this enables coaches to look at him early instead of a high school senior. I assume he can attend Jan semester. Plus he still has at least three years?

What are they going to “look at”? He has four years of eligibility because Heupel honored a redshirt plan.
