Nah, if Hooker is still at UT next year.....assuming he doesnt turn pro, he will be the starter coming in. This will allow Heupel some more room to get another QB behind Jackson and stack his QB room according to class.Just my .02, but Hooker’s rapid week-to-week development after it became clear Milton couldn’t step up and perform in actual game day conditions is PROOF POSITIVE that Heup can indeed develop QB’s. Bc Hooker was way slow on the draw at first.
Some guys just thrive in combat conditions while others choke. But make no mistake Hooker and Heupel have done this together.
Btw as fast as Hooker has developed I still don’t think Heupel has found his/our QB yet. Wouldn’t surprise me if a next level transfer with 2-3 yrs left doesn’t come in and immediately challenge for the starting job next year.
Liberty is interesting.HB destination assumptions, based on nothing but my witless thinking. Listed in no particular order. However, I think he will pick a school with a coach with a reputation as a QB developer. Bailey is nowhere as bad as some think he is. In the right program with the right coach, we will hear of him. I wish hi the best of luck.

1vol8 says there was an incident and staying wasn't a real option.hmmmm.........
Heupel got lucky that Joe Milton got hurt. He’s really no better than Pruitt at evaluating qb’s, he probably still would be trotting Milton out there.Good grief. Are you kidding?
What exactly was Heupel supposed to do? By ALL ACCOUNTS... not most... ALL... Milton won the QB competition in August camp and it wasn't close. By accounts of people who spoke privately with coaches, Hooker didn't have a good camp and Bailey was pretty clearly 3rd.
This seems easy to understand for everyone except the Bailey fan club. The staff went off the best information they had to make an objective evaluation of the 3 QB's. There's no plot against HB. He got his chance. He needed to clearly separate himself in decision making and delivering the ball on time and target. He couldn't and that's why he wasn't the starter or back up. If he were the superior passer then he would be ahead of Milton and might have been the starter.
I'm not sure what you do or if you've ever hired, promoted, or otherwise led other people... but you use the information you have to make the best decision you can. That's what Heupel did. Milton just didn't translate practice to games. After the last 4 years, no Vol fan should doubt that this happens.
So can I prove that? Indirectly, yes. I don't think anyone would argue against the idea that Heupel has tremendous buy in from the players. Do you know what playing a guy who didn't earn it in practice and ESPECIALLY a QB would do to player morale and buy in? Destroy it.
Not being ugly about it... I hope you understand... but I don't care what Bailey or Maurer do now that they aren't Vols unless they're playing UT... then I hope the fail badly.
I don't expect others to be like me but I'm a Vol fan. I am an interested but mostly neutral observer of CFB generally. Outside of rooting for UT... I usually root for whatever will cause the most mayhem.... fun. I don't follow the NFL in part because the game isn't as interesting to me and in part because I've long since gotten over the privilege and attitude that many of them have. I don't like the NFL for a reason similar to why I never thought Pamela Anderson was attractive.... fake boobs and plastic faces aren't pretty to me. The NFL is just too much entertainment and not enough football for my tastes.
So... my interest is UT Vols football.
I noticed you have no answer in all that nonsense. Rather than lying about a supposed 'crush', tell us why a 5-star QB with ridiculous stats should have been overlooked for Joe Milton ?
When one puts up the stats he did in the highest class in Georgia, he has enough talent to play in College. With any common sense, one can not even suggest he doesn't have talent. I will agree it helps when you have someone who can catch the ball, but most teams playing his his league have receivers who can catch the ball. Our coaches do not believe he can play in their system so he will not play in their system.
To those who say he is screwing us over, you are barking up the wrong tree. He stayed this Fall because he thought/hope he would get his chance. He did was not given that chance. What do you expect him to do when his goal is to play college football? His best chance is to let people know he is willing to transfer and doing that now him gives the best chance of transferring. Based on the information he has gotten about playing at Tennessee, any intelligent person would make the same decision.
Couldnt agree more!.Not being ugly about it... I hope you understand... but I don't care what Bailey or Maurer do now that they aren't Vols unless they're playing UT... then I hope the fail badly.

I dont have to see practice.... I saw with my own eyes actual games..... Players everyday look the part and sh1t the bed on gameday. Didn't we hear the same BS for JG being the better Qb ? Also HB got very limited time here but still had better stats accuracy wise and had taken less sacks than Milton. Injury my ass the guy Blows. Milton couldn't fall off a sinking battleship. And yes IMO wasting time on a wash out like Milton slowed development of the other QB's including Hooker. Hooker is a gamer. Proven since he started playing. This guy was behind Milton. Lol I am allowed to have a view as well as anyone else. Oh btw Qb's tend to have charteristics.... 3 seconds..... 3 and he runs out of bounds. Yeah that is D1 Big League Material. Look, we have been over this. Last season Bailey was a sigh of relieve because he went through progressions and threw some nice passes. He didn't really turn the ball over. Yeah he took some sacks. But no more than Milton the same year. But to me, a true freshman is worth more than a Graduated hack that just had a big arm. Milton is a "ME" guy as displayed by his flexing and Superman poses lol. He's soft. All the talk of running.... he walked out of bounds and gave your TEAM 0 opportunity. It is what it is. Hopefully the portal is kind to us. Jackson isn't ready to play in this Conference and Milton just isn't a D1 QBNeither of us know that... and Heupel didn't have to play Hooker after Milton got healthy again. In fact, most coaches are still resistant to letting injuries cost a starter his job.
Well, no. Coaching behavior and Heupel's behavior are somewhat predictable. MOST coaches won't let a single player sink them or a team. Milton was sinking UT.
If Hooker goes pro then the likely starter will come out of the portal... and there should be plenty of good options.
Based on? People who were allowed to observe practice said that Milton performed better. Some said that Hooker in particular had a tough camp though he was still better than Bailey.
There's no actual proof that Bailey "has it" or ever will. Both were highly rated recruits. Neither has proven that they're great college QB's. Bailey does not appear to be just a "gamer" type of guy who sucks worse in practice than on gameday. You should get what you think you are getting. Milton appears to wilt on gameday.
I still think Bailey could have passed Milton had he stuck it out... and especially if Hooker went pro. Now we'll never know.
LOL... so his handling of the QB's is "suspect" because you "think so" having not seen practice? Ainge and others said that Milton very clearly outperformed the others. Apparently all those throws he missed in games were big plays in practice. Coaches for a lot of reasons have to go off what happens in practice unless or until a guy disproves himself on gameday.
One of those reasons is that if you start a guy who isn't as good as those competing with him... the team will see it and lose trust/buy in. I see zero evidence that players have not bought into this staff's program AND integrity.
Im typing slow so may this will help you remember/understand.
Harrison Bailey was NOT a 5 star HS QB. Exactly one service rated him a 5 star while most others rated him a 4 star. So my assumption that you and others have been crushing like middle school girls is at least understandable i would think.
You take one data point and brandish about like its the only data point that matters. All the while ignoring all the other more important data sets. Data like
- two coaching staffs deemed him not ready
- both of said staffs have reknown and trusted qb experts
-your own eyes, which should have told you he wasnt ready ( his spring game stats against walk ons completely fooled some it seems)-multiple reports from trusted sources out of Fall Camp saying he was a distant third or fourth.
All i can.say is its a sad day when people care more for a player than the team. HB didnt set the precedent for this for sure although he is the only college player im aware of that has some created this type of cult following.
Our very own Peyton Manning had that effect in the pros. How many Colts jerseys were snapped up when he landed in Indy? THEN all those new Colts fans had to go buy them a new Broncos jersey...nothing wrong with it but i thought it fumny when i would see a Broncos jersey at a bar and the person would be offended when i asked if they were a Broncos fan or a Peyton fan
Hmmm
Maybe PM is to blame for this cultural shift on non-team fans of teams.
Anyhow, bottom line is..HB was not ready and may never be even though one time this one guy said he was a 5 star.

Hooker has been Money. Can't say the right guy isn't starting. He is. What I have a problem with is we see that Hooker is overall a better QB than Milton has ever been. We see that. It shows on the film. History. Milton on the other hand transfers in and immediately is better than everyone ? Sorry I do not buy that. He is soft, can not throw a deep ball and he really can't run either due to being soft. Our staff picked the wrong guy and wasted a lot of time doing so. So did HB get a fair shake ? We don't really know. But the guy we picked and had media saying crap like Cam Newton clone etc...... well it failed the eye test. So sure if that happens then you have some room to question about others ability. Now again, it doesn't mean the end of the world. HB will transfer and we will never know what he could or could not really do with this staff. They apparently wanted something else. But I wish HB the best of luck wherever he lands. If he plays against us then he is thy enemy if not will be interested in how he matures and plays. You may be right IF Hooker continues to develop at this pace and demonstrates more upside potential.
If OTOH he maxes out where he is now I think a next level QB could absolutely come in and challenge for the job next year. Just my .02.

What are some successful examples?
Didn’t “you” make the claim that Heupel is no better at evaluating QB’s than Pruitt?
And didn’t you make the claim that Heupel would probably still be trotting Milton out there?
So…….isn’t it YOU who should be providing us the examples? I disputed “your” baseless claim. I also provided “some limited” information to base my objection on……the fact that your merely stating your opinion and the fact Heupel has done this before…..and been quite successful.
However I don’t shy away from “my” claims. I “know” Heupel has been successful where as you stated he’s no better than Pruitt.
Listed below will be every single year he coached QB’s, OC, and HC and the QB’s used that season.
2006 Heupel starts as QB coach for Oklahoma: each year shows his QB then what happened to each QB.
06. Paul Thompson - Green Bay & Tennessee Titans
07. Sam Bradford - 1st pick Rams
08. Sam Bradford
09. Landry Jones - Steelers (also Sam Bradford that year too)
10. Landry Jones - Steelers 4th round
11. Landry Jones
12. Landry Jones
13. Blake Bell - 4th round 49ers
13. Also had Trevor Knight - Cardinals (undrafted but 3 year 1.66 mil contract)
14. Trevor Knight
2015 at UtahState for 1 year produced no NFL QB (however their scoring improved, their passing yards per game improved, and their TD to int’s improved)
16. Drew Lock - Broncos 2nd round
17. Drew lock
That is the entirety of Heupel as a QB coach
Equals 12 years and coached a future NFL QB every year but 1.
Also at UCF:
Year 1 he had Milton…..he is still playing.
Year 2 & 3 he had Dillon Gabriel and he is still playing.
Every single year possible except for 1 his QB went pro unless they kept playing. In that one year the offense did improve and the QB improved.
I would say VERY impressive.

None are doing anything in the NFL. They’re no better than Nathan Peterman.
