Tennessee QB Harrison Bailey enters NCAA transfer portal

Does losing Harrison help open the door back up for the Wade twins? Word is they went w/Kentucky because Keaton felt it was the better chance to play QB given what Terry Wilson did last season, while most other programs were recruiting him as an athlete.

How did you make the evaluation that an undeveloped 5-star QB recruit with ridiculously impressive stats - sucks worse than Milton?
Simple. 2 staffs who have seen him every day at practice and in the film room have put him 3rd string. If he was that good, and was doing what was expected of him, they wouldn't have brought Milton in after the O&W game.

Not being ugly about it... I hope you understand... but I don't care what Bailey or Maurer do now that they aren't Vols unless they're playing UT... then I hope the fail badly.

I don't expect others to be like me but I'm a Vol fan. I am an interested but mostly neutral observer of CFB generally. Outside of rooting for UT... I usually root for whatever will cause the most mayhem.... fun. I don't follow the NFL in part because the game isn't as interesting to me and in part because I've long since gotten over the privilege and attitude that many of them have. I don't like the NFL for a reason similar to why I never thought Pamela Anderson was attractive.... fake boobs and plastic faces aren't pretty to me. The NFL is just too much entertainment and not enough football for my tastes.

So... my interest is UT Vols football.

Not sure what to make of your post in the light of what you responded to. Maybe Monday came on Thursday for me today.

You know of this supposed "promise" how, exactly? From the internet pontificators? Personal firsthand knowledge?

Most of the hand wringing on this board comes from imagined events, perceived puffery from other hand wringers and the simple desire for relevance.

I prefer to believe what all who witnessed some, or all, of the practice sessions. All were equally given a shot and there was a virtual unanimous consensus that Milton out performed the competition in those sessions. HB was an also ran. His performance in game time was lacking as well. Sorry for the young man, but he needed to remain under the tutelage of CJH for another year or two. The worst thing that happened to HB was the late arrival of the 5 Star rating in his senior year. It put far too high of an expectation level on his shoulders. Some of it self imposed (as all competitors do) and the public frothing at the mouth for a new Manning.

The apparent belief that he was the next Great White Hope also drove some of the narrative that he was the best horse in the stable. Yep, I said it. If it pisses people off, well then maybe some self examination needs to occur.
Agree with everything except the bold. Just no need to bring that into it.... or give credence to those who would allow it to influence their behavior.

Hooker appears to be a high character young guy in addition to being a very good QB. Milton graduated from Michigan which is one of the higher rated public colleges Those things should NEVER have an asterisk beside them.

Racism will stop when we stop considering a very insignificant genetic difference in melanin... to define people in any way.

They never gave the kid a chance. They wanted a mobile QB but I just wish he would have left earlier then all the pundits tearing the kid down would shut up. Ainge was so high on this kid after spring but did a 180! So done with WNML.

Well, because coaches with far more information and expertise than either of us... with their jobs on the line... very clearly thought so.

Impressive stats? In HS? Maurer's stats in HS were awesome and he dropped to 4th before quitting... yep, he had to "drop" to 4th where Bailey previously resided.

I have nothing against the kid but it isn't like HS players don't get overrated or that even really good HS players cannot translate performance to college. One of the things you notice right off the bat with Bailey is that he's very polished. He just does things correctly. He holds the ball right. He has the right posture. He approaches reads in classically correct order. He has good form. Could it be that all of that give him the advantage he had in HS? Could it be that his actual physical talent left him with a lower ceiling than some thought?

We will see soon enough but there isn't a huge market out there for relatively immobile QB's without elite arm talent.

If he was doing what he was supposed to, he would've been higher up. He had the same time in the film room and on the field to show the coaches what they wanted. He didn't, was 3rd string, and is taking his ball elsewhere.

YES THEY DID. He had an equal chance all spring. He had an equal chance through most of August. Just because they didn't let him play a lot in games so you could give your expert stamp of approval to their decisions DOES NOT MEAN that he didn't get a chance.

I haven't listened to Ainge since this broke and his opinions are pretty much just that. He is more qualified than most of us... but he's a media figure.

It wasn't just his mobility. He doesn't have an elite arm. Frankly, neither does Hooker. So if you have two guys relatively equal in arm talent what's left? Mobility and decision making. Hooker has been very good at both. Bailey's arm strength does not compare to Milton's and apparently he has not thrown the ball as well in practice either.

Bailey had to win the job on decision making and accuracy/timing. That was what he had. He didn't. You really need to let go of your conspiracy theories. Nothing happened to Bailey except he wasn't good enough in competition with the other two.

I have a father-in-law who's first question every time I tell him we signed a new QB is "white guy or black guy?". If he's black, he just shakes his head. Like you, I'm not trying to have a racial debate but reality is there's a section of people (especially in older demographic) that think white guys make better QBs than black guys. It just is what it is, and they aren't going to change their minds.

The same staffs that Put Milton #1 and Guarantano #1, never giving the 5-star a chance - and placing Hooker behind Milton? At best, you have an indictment of the evaluators. Fact is, we now have a highly recruited 5-star QB leaving the program without ever having an opportunity to develop.
BTW, in that O&W game you referenced, who put in the best performance by far? HB - and not even close.
But hey, at least we have Hooker to help cover the Milton mistake. Unfortunately, that mistake cost us a legitimate QB.

I certainly understand the reasons for transferring, especially his. I don't understand the timing of anyone doing it at this point in the season.

By leaving now, I assume he hopes to be able to select a school, get accepted and enrolled, and be eligible to participate in spring ball with his new team. It would be hard to do that in the few weeks between semesters.

He actually appeared to have passed Maurer which led to Maurer's hissy fit and transfer.
Did he really pass Maurer or is that the speculation because Maurer left and people saying that?
Could be that Maurer took money or did something when Pruitt was here and given the choice to hit the portal or be let go? Had mental break down?

I didn't expect him to stay (zero reason to do so) but I wish he would have stuck around until we could utilize the 1 to 1 / up to 7 transfer portal replacement scheme.

I'm sure he wants an early start so he doesn't end up sitting like Maurer is. Also probably worried about burning a redshirt for no benefit.

Other than that? No qualms. Oh, have to say who gives a crap what the staff near-universally regarded as dogshit thought about HB? No one was taking JG's job until Pruitt was in desperation mode.

Quick question, ever sit in a position room? Ever sat in a room to break down film? Well I have,,,,, 4 years and until you've been there don't judge a kid. The kid was never given the chance because he did not fit the system. Not any blame on CJH but HB didn't fit what they wanted. I will say this and I'll get slammed but if this kid plays against us and balls out then what will the fan base say? Pretty sure he winds up in a G5 school so be it but if P5 then all bets are off.

It was widely confirmed that he was told that his #1 reps were going to be reduced.

I just don't know. I doubt Pruitt gave him money... Pruitt pretty openly disliked BM.
