Tennessee ranking

He also said that it looks like Bruce made the wrong decision to stay....obviously.

Eh, who knows if Bruce wouldn't have gotten into the same kind of mess in Memphis.

Sometimes a Leopard/Tiger/Volunteer doesn't change its spots/stripes/frilly volunteer outfit.

Lol I thought the same thing.

Their resume is pretty comparable to ours, yet they're destined for sweet 16 or better, and we are incapable of beating a tourney team.

Heh? How are our resumes comparable?

We've beaten a top 10 and just about all of our losses have come against the top 25.

You've beaten zero top 25 teams and possibly no tourney teams, and lost to at least 3 if not 4 teams that will be in the NIT or worse.

I don't get how the resumes are comparable in the slightest at this point.

This does not even deserve a response, it is so funny.

"Strutting like Foghorn Leghorn". You've lost me here, Champ.

You'd be hard pressed to find a mention of UT on the Memphis boards other than that you just waxed LSU.

Just don't self-inflict the next time UT loses, but I'm glad you're enjoying yourself today.

No, they obsess over UT all the time. Little brother syndrome.

The fact of the matter is that plenty of people on here have been critical of Martin because he has deserved it. I'm not giddy over last night's win because this team has to prove it can do it on a more consistent basis. Just like Memphis. Martin and Pastner aren't going to blow anyone away with their coaching acumen. As soon as you realize that and don't get so easily offended by people on a UT board making light of it then you'll be able to deal with your emotional state much better. Pastner has done less with more just like Martin but Pastner has done even less IMO because he has had more talent. I'm sure you think otherwise but the results say otherwise.

Hey, if you think I'm in here defending Pastner, you haven't been paying attention. I simply pointed out the weird phenomena that some of you guys celebrate a win by automatically comparing yourself to Memphis rather than enjoying that you just beat a decent team.

No, you got offended because someone made light of Memphis losing at home bad on a UT board. The horror of it all. Good Lord.

Seriously.

We've beaten no tourney teams?

Pick your bracketologist MC, anyone of them has at least 1 team we've beaten, if not 2 or 3.

Talk about reaching.

It's absolutely possible. Which teams, of the teams that you've beaten, are more than probably going to make the tourney?

LSU? There are 4 tourney bids in the SEC this year, would you bet your house that LSU is one?

Virginia? They play in the ACC which means they're about 12th in line for a bid.

Xavier? Probably your best hope, but you've got a lot of faith in them being in the top 4-5 of the Big East with Marquette, Gtown, Nova, Creighton and Butler all crowding for room.

Which team are you betting your duplex on to be a lock for the tourney?

I'm not trying to be mean, or instigate. I would like a response though, a well thought out response if you can help it.

"If not 4 teams in the NIT or worse?" Wichita State is clearly a tournament team. As of now, Xavier is a tournament team. We can only go on as of now because I doubt anyone here can predict the future.

There are different rankings out there, but if you use ESPN RPI, then we have beaten 2 top 40 teams (Xavier at 24 and UVA at 36). Wake Forest is at 64, and LSU is at 87.

Again, these pissing contests are pointless, and I really don't care to waste my time on them, but the things you say aren't true.

You didn't beat Wichita State though. Xavier probably has the best shot to be a tourney team out of the 3 mentioned, they still have that ugly loss to USC though.

Wake Forest ain't making the tourney, I'll almost guarantee that and we'll see where UVA's RPI is after they're done with Duke, Pitt, Cuse, UNC, Clemson and FSU (again).

^^^^These were your words, not mine. You said "lost" to 3 if not 4.

I guess it is fun to always speculate, but I am not doing it with you. I can say that UConn doesn't look good either and UK beat UL, but I have no idea what they will do the rest of the year.

Ah, true. My bad. I meant 2 possibly three NIT teams. Wichita will be dancing.

UL will be in the tourney, and UConn too most likely be sheer virtue of their Florida win. Who knows if they'll be top 25 teams or not.

But the whole point of this excercise was to see if UT's resume compares with Memphis'. I say this as objectively as possible, it does not. Not now at least. BTO is full of it.

Memphis:
10-3 (1-1)
SOS: 29
Top 50 Wins: 1
Bad Losses: 0
Expected Record: 21-9 (11-7)
Expected Top 50 Wins: 3
Expected RPI: 35.9

Tennessee:
10-4 (1-0)
SOS: 23
Top 50 Wins: 2
Bad Losses: 1
Expected Record: 21-9 (13-5)
Expected Top 50 Wins: 4
Expected RPI: 35.3

If those aren't "comparable", I'm not sure what is!

It's probably best if MC finds something else to argue about now.

BTW, Pastner fired his brother-in-law yesterday. Sure you knew. He was the S&C coach. If someone else posted this already, sorry!:unsure:

Yea I saw that, looked like he's trying to place blame elsewhere, but who knows. It was some huge deal when they brought him in, but now wanna blame him for their struggles.

What is all this "expected" garbage? What about record vs. top 25? Top 100?

Take out your make believe stuff, and the resumes aren't comparable.

I'm not even mad guy. Just pointing out something funny is all.

You're not mad, but you are responding to every single post about Memphis like it's an affront to your manhood. Ok then.

And yes, it was hilarious when Memphis got boat raced at home by Cincy. I was LMAO.

Was an awesome "boat race", I guess.

Up until last night, I might have agreed. But we beat LSU, who is Memphis' second best win. Memphis has two wins against the top 100. UT has at least 4. Just because you beat a top 10 team doesn't mean it's a better résumé. Objectively, UT has the better résumé, and I am not sure how you can argue that.

Your initial post said nothing about rankings.

The difference between a 7 point win vs. a 17 pt win in Kenpom's system at the end of the year is insignificant.

I know you noticed, because you've mentioned it several times, but this thread is specifically about ranking. In fact, that is the title of the thread. It's clear your feathers are ruffled by the fact someone mentioned that we happen to be ranked above Memphis in said ranking. If it is insignificant like you say then why do you even care to complain about it?
