Tennessee requests 30 day extension

Lol if they tell Tennessee no tv, they will instantly get told to FK off. They will not give up that kind of money. That would be the final nail in the coffin for the NCAA.

Yeah right.
Big Daddy ESPN would overrule the NCAA real quick on that lol.

Here's the unpleasant thing about revoking wins from Pruitt's second and third year (8 in 2019, 3 in 2020). Have a look at the all-time wins list for major college football:

1.Michigan - 983
2.Alabama - 949
3.Ohio State - 949
4.Notre Dame - 933
5.Texas - 933
6.Oklahoma - 932
7.Penn State - 915
8.Nebraska - 911
9.Tennessee - 863
10.USC - 862
11.Georgia - 860
------------------
12.LSU - 829
13.Auburn - 791
14.Clemson - 786
15.West Virginia - 772
16.Texas A&M - 769
17.Virginia Tech - 765
18.Washington - 755
19.Pittsburgh - 753
20.Florida - 752

I took the liberty of inserting a dashed line at the spot Tennessee would occupy with 11 vacated wins (from 863 down to 852).

You'll notice two things about that new spot:

-- It takes us out of the Top 10 all-time programs.
-- It drops us behind UGa.

So yeah, this is painful. I don't care if those were "Beldar wins." I don't care if some of them came in the weird Covid season.

I do care about our place in the history books.

Josh Heupel can, with several years of concerted effort, climb us slowly back up that ladder above UGa. We'll have to make up 8 games on them. So it won't come quick or easy. But we can do that.

I'd just rather not have to. I'd much rather still be climbing our way up to pass Nebraska.

So yeah, let's don't pretend that vacating a couple of seasons of wins from the Pruitt era doesn't hurt the program. It does.

Go Vols!
Well the good news is we'll be gaining about 8 wins per year on Nebraska for the foreseeable future.

I think if there was anything bad we would of got some wind of it last year. We went to a bowl game last year with basically the same team. No reason to punish TN now. Danny White appears to be running one of the tightest ships in the country. It is amazing what TN athletics has accomplished in past 16-18 months and VolNation should be proud of what has transpired since DW’s arrival. He really has built a good framework for the future. All the major sports are competing for championships and there are not many programs in the country that can make that claim.

That's not how this feels to me.

This feels to me more like the legal firm hired by UT is milking it for all they can get. They asked UT to ask for an extension. More billable hours, you see.

Now, what they said to UT to make UT agree, I don't know. But one thing is for sure: lawyers almost always suck. And that's when they're on your side.

Nothing to worry about in this, I don't think. Other than lawyers suck.

Go Vols!

Sadly, if W revocations are in the cards, it'll be a lot more than 3. It'll probably be the entire 2019 and 2020 seasons. So 8 + 3 = 11 wins vacated. Because the investigaion revealed the payoffs started as early as September 2018. Which means the kids being paid were on the team for both 2019 and 2020. And some of the lads who suspiciously left with Pruitt, they played in every single one of those games.
Hell that would improve our all time winning percentage considerably.

Does this mean the participation awards given out by Butch Jones might also be revoked? Could get ugly.

The NCAA is an empty suit after the NIL box was opened. They are out of work.

Tennessee has been in discussions with the NCAA ever since getting NCAA findings and report back in late July. They want to continue the negotiations which would indicate the NCAA is not willing to accept the self imposed penalties without a little more of a hit, whatever that is. it could be a negotiation on the number of probation years, the number of scholarship reductions, degree of institutional control, games they won being revoked or other things. Would be shocked if the discussions were over any sort of post season ban. Don't believe that would be part of any penalty.

The ncaa isn’t going to announce a bowl ban for this season in November. That would have happened before the start of the season.

Didn’t they announce mizzou’s punishment in November, right around the time of the game that was for the 6th win or 7th loss?

If Tennessee does get nailed by the NCAA i think it would be a 1-2 season bowl ban. If that's the case i hope it wouldn't start until the 2023 season.

Come on Larry....just slip the NCAA a little 6-figure "tip" and they will disappear quicker than a Derek Dooley job

This is simply legal posturing. Tennessee paid a well respected law firm to conduct a thorough investigation. The report for this investigation was shared with the NCAA. This goes well above and beyond what a member school is required to do. This saved the NCAA millions of dollars and is the epitome of transparency. Once the NCAA reviewed the report, the NCAA crafted it's own report of allegations. Tennessee was given formal notice of these allegations by the NCAA. Once that happened, the clock began on our time to issue a response back to the NCAA. As others have said, more time means more billable hours. I do not believe this is anywhere near finality. The NCAA works very slowly. The things we did in response to these problems will greatly benefit us when a resolution is realized.
