Tennessee Softball 2023

Not a fan of Cinderella teams winning their league tournament making it? Knocking off P5 teams in regionals/NCAAT?

Yes, that scenario is ok.

For the regular season champ (US!!!), we have battle fatigue. Let's cool our heels for ten days, and come to play in NCAA's.

aka, minimal use of Ashley in SEC tourney

#1 seed has the “easiest” path as a reward for the regular season. Bye and playing the lower half of the bracket with a 8/9 winner.

Conference tournaments in all sports are SUCH a waste of time. You've just played a long regular season to see
who the best teams are, and then at the conclusion of the that, it's "Ok, let's play a tournament to see who the best
teams are." They're superfluous--not needed. Waste of time, money, effort--in all sports.
And this is why beyond winning the automatic bid they are rarely reflected in the seedings by the committees at the end.

What gets me is G was OF at Arizona and West was recruited as a catcher and played there some her first two seasons, yet their positions are reversed. Also Puni can catch, too.

West dealt with a leg issue early in the year that took catching off of the table for this year. Puni has not caught, I’m told, since before she got to Oklahoma. Doesn’t even have gear here.

Agree....I've said this for years. You play a conference schedule for weeks....you play at their site and play some at your site. It's a grind over time. Then....let's all converge at a neutral site and play it all over again in a few days. It's all about the $$$$$.

Does anyone understand why they don't shuffle the deck after the first round and give the #1 seed the lowest seeded survivor? Seems to me the #1 seed has earned that.

Keeping it simple.

Fan bases need a lot of drinking time at the tournaments. Safer to work toward a fixed schedule for that, versus the helter-skelter of the re-seeding business. Plus, it rains and stacks things in funny ways...see the baseball tourney last year where we were playing ball at 1:30 am.

Ok, that may be a bad take on that, but it is my thought process....lol

Everyone’s comments about having an SEC Championship Tournament are right, and it is unfair to our teams, while teams in conferences that do not have a conference championship tournament are resting up for the NCAA Tournament.

With OK coming to the SEC in 2024, we may get tired of seeing them win our conference, although they may not win so much when the tournament is not in Oklahoma.

This year, we have Ashley, Kiki, Boo, Puni, Lair, Rylie, Payton, KP, Hoo, G, and all the others who can win this Championship, and we have to play in the tournament anyway, so I’d just as soon we won it. Let’s get the SEC Tournament Championship Trophy, hope it includes rings, too.

True about Puni but she still has more catching experience than G, who we are reminded of every game hasn't been a catcher since she was very young. Puni is a great 3B, I'm just saying defensively catcher and SS are pretty glaring weaknesses for us, especially this time of the year, not to mention at the plate neither one gives us any productivity on a consistent basis.

I expect both those were told they would start since they were transfers!

When it was announced they were coming I assumed they would be OF/DP.

SS kind of is what it is. Really the only other options would be Pannell (hurt) and Beautae. I really wish Ivy Davis were a year younger. She would be handling SS which would put Donihoo in the OF where she should be.

As for catchers, the only options other than Guilia are West (leg issue), Puni (by far the best 3B), Rodriguez (hasn't hit/hurt) and Kirkpatrick (not ready).
