Yes but White is our #3 as of today and hasn’t proved she can do either in her 3 years. Once the Stanford, Liberty and if true about OSU go off the open market and if one or two don’t come to Lady Vols it’s time to hit the panic button. It’s very strange how long they are being on the open market with no rumors. But if we can’t land one or hopefully two of them the season is over before it starts. There’s nothing better than Rylie White in the portal left outside of the ones mentioned.True but you hope at least if that isn't happening you have someone that can eat up most of those innings in the weekday games so you only have to use your top two pitchers which is all we have now on weekend series.
Houston lost 10 kids to the portal. Opportunity was there for Lair as well as cheaper flights from LAX to Houston.Maybe. I have heard nothing of what schools she is considering, though. No idea if location is a factor. I figured Lair would probably transfer somewhere closer to home in California but she wound up at Houston.
Portal opens up December 1-15. The small window and timeline there’s no money and roster room for most teams so that is not a favorable situation for kids going into the portal then anyways. Over the last few years there hasn’t been that much movement in the Fall anyways in my opinion to make a change to the rule. You’re only getting the kids that realized in the fall they have been replaced or deeper on the depth chart. Not enough to improve a program but it gave kids a chance to find a better fit before losing a year of eligibility. With 3 coming in next season potentially 2 depending on if Tanner is a utility/P. The numbers are getting dicey on experience by losing RW and PG to graduation after this season. Not sure the board will be happy with picking up just anyone at this time based on the low quality of portal pitchers. Ideally another 2022 kid/Orsini and maybe grad student or Junior. Believe DeerPark said they can open the portal up after the fall, but I was under the impression last year was the last time to do that. To stop kids from transferring mid-year…I could be wrong on that.

It come down to Houston had the money to offer Lair the best deal. Her market wasn’t the highest after this season. Not a lot schools had money to offer what she was getting here at Tennessee for an unknown. Sometimes going to a lesser program players will excel and Lair will be one of loose type of players. She probably play some SS and 2B but play every game the next 2 years. She’ll be an all big 12 player her senior year.Maybe. I have heard nothing of what schools she is considering, though. 101 about recruiting…. Bring a pitcher in for every recruiting class and this helps eliminate the problem of pitchers on the staff do to them leaving through the portal. No reason to bring in 10 girls in the 2022 class last year when only Pickens and Pannell were only projected starters. And now we only had room and money for 3 in the 2023 class and no pitchers. That move has comeback to hurt the team this year and the future. The 2023 class had stronger pitching prospects than the 2022 and 2024 recruiting classes. And without getting the top pitchers in the portal will cost the team because if you can’t win the circle you ain’t winning nothing.
Tori Coffman…solid pitcher, good velocity with no off speed pitch is her only downside. Got away in JUCO with powering it by kids with fastball and curve. Wondering why she’s going back, she has offers from WCU, ETSU, CN and a few other smaller schools.Nearby Walters State C. C. has a pitcher named 1st. team All American as a freshman.
Sounds like she had set up a commitment before entering!
