Tennessee Softball 2023

Unfortunately not expecting Maxwell to make it to campus. Think her interest (if it ever was legit) cooled and her list narrowed. Getting her on a visit this past week was always going to be tough given some scheduling issues. Tennessee side was hoping her time in Ireland with Kiki and Aubrey would be a driving force

Not sure what they are doing but:

Just a standard replacement/refurbishment of the field. Because of the way dirt builds up on the edge of the infield, you have to level the field every 7 to 10 years. You probably noticed the lip on the edge of the grass getting more and more pronounced the last couple of years. That’s part of it.

On roughly that same cycle, the Bermuda needs to be redone because of the way you also over seed to make sure there is grass early in the year and late in the fall.

Waiting to see what and when upgrades will start. It'll probably be a few more years but White said UT was going to upgrade the softball stadium.

looks like south carolina got Vawter….very interesting, but I guess that makes another school in the conference more competitive
WTF I didn’t see that one coming….
Also with there incoming freshman pitcher that will make SC very competitive because they can win the circle. That will be one of the better staffs in the SEC. Tennessee missed the boat by not getting a pitcher this offseason with the offense they will have this season. With losing Ashely Tennessee pitching staff is probably only at 6-8 best staffs in conference this upcoming year. Hurt not having a backup plan knowing we are losing Ashley. It shows you can’t rely on the portal, should be recruiting a pitcher in every class. Crazy after coming off the WCWS there wasn’t a pitcher wanting to come to Tennessee.

Even more surprising than her going there, I was told by coach at another school that South Carolina was the only place she even visited officially. Didn’t return phone calls from most schools that reached out. Seems very odd that someone from Missouri that played in the Pac 12 would feel so confident about South Carolina of all places that she only visited there and committed shortly there after.

With the last of the major portal pitchers now gone one thing seems pretty clear to me. We are going to be a very good team, potentially outstanding on offense with our entire starting lineup back while adding Taylor, Gracie, and Des back from injuries with Nugent, Meadors, Faw, and the two Leach sisters. But imho the success of this team is now dependent upon the development of one Karlyn Pickens. If she becomes an ace we can be fine with her alongside Payton and Ryleigh/Charli chewing innings where they can. If Karlyn isn’t an ace then ?????

100% accurate. But at the end of the day it all comes down to executing when it really counts in may adding in a little luck. I know at the time everyone was excited about the #4 seed, but I knew that once we made it to the World Series it was going to be extremely tough to get to the champ series bc we’d eventually have to face OU…granted if we got a little lower seed I could definitely see us in the champ series against them. With that being said, I’m sure the players know what the holes in our team going forward are and if the right people can pick up the slack and do their part I think we’ll be alright

Unfortunately, we are gonna have to get use to this. With NIL, it can complicate the process.
It’s across all sports. Karen must adjust or get left in the dirt. I’d say she is holding her own. Tough to compete in that top five every year.

We faced OU early--and the coach decided to throw our No. 3 pitcher against them. That guaranteed that we weren't getting to the championship series.

We should have a good team next year, but not having a solid No. 3 could definitely be a problem. You need to sign a pitcher every year, and for some reason Weekly didn't do that last year.

Why are you assuming Karen didn't sign a pitcher out of choice? She may have gone after a dozen pitchers for all we know.
So. You’re assuming she signed a sleeper or secret commit? Pretty sure you missed the point of the conversation. The issue is she didn’t sign another pitcher, regardless of whether she tried or not. It’s called recruiting.

For sure, but I think I liked our chances against FSU in a 1-0 game than against OU. Tbh that other bracket was not as strong as ours

Once Charli came back it was obvious the ones targeted were not coming. Not ideal, but with PG and KP we should be competitive with the offense and defense returning. If either gets hurt or KP somehow does not take the major leap forward it’ll be a up and down season of trying to be in the top half of the league.
