Tennessee Softball 2024

College athletics have become a cesspool with all the NIL bs.
Yes, the previous system of players being ruled ineligible for accepting a free order of french fries was so much better than human beings being able to earn the amount of money the market deems is fair for their services.

In the Pre - NIL system, players were still bought but with smaller dollars.
Define smaller? It’s no secret big programs have paid large amounts for decades. One of the great wonders we discussed just a few days ago…unspoken rules to protect your own house.

Saban built Bama with free cars. Once NIL came around, Saban knew he could not hoard all the 5 stars anymore. No school has the money to hoard the 5 stars,,, especially Bama

that example is decades after the fact.
Bama has been built many times under the table.

You asked for an example and that is it right there. Other schools did the same just on a smaller level than Bama. Then NIL came around.

OU football got hammered in late 1980’s. Then in early 2000’s they were starting to ramp up the cheating. Early stages and then OU/Rhett Bomar gets popped by NCAA. OU compliance completely scared AF.

The system of (legal) pay for play now is soooo much better. Some serious rules need to be put in by the NCAA.

No, I said define smaller. Programs not named Bama have been paying better or on the same scale well before Saban at LSU or Bama. Yes, OU back in the 80’s, even Tennessee. It’s no secret how Tennessee rebounded under Majors and into the Fulmer era. It wasn’t just big stadiums and practice facilities.

Programs were not paying remotely close to the same amount that NIL is now. Highly rated QBs are 1-2 mill with NIL.

And my parents house I grew up in,
isn’t close to what mine is in regards to what we both paid. 1-2M seems low compared Reggie Bush and Cam Newton market value at the time. But yes, by todays rules kids are getting paid freely more in most sports.

And a lot more of them getting big bucks. Keep in mind, it’s all pay for play which is against the rules but hard to prove. Even if you could prove it, the courts are ruling in favor of players on everything.

You’ve said that as well.

Any rule that they try to put in to regulate NIL won’t stand up to a court challenge. It’s not legal in any way to tell people what they can and can’t spend on a person for promotional purposes. It never was and how it took decades to be fully challenged in court is beyond me.

Amazing that in the 90’s the O’Bannon brothers started all of this by seeing themselves in video games. Slow played afterwards until it couldn’t be ignored.

She’s going in the portal officially on Monday, paperwork is in, but it doesn’t refresh over the weekend. She’s going to Oklahoma, done deal. I’ve heard it’s actually much more money than has been speculated in this thread. I’m sure she’ll take a visit midweek and wait until Thursday or Friday to commit, in an attempt to make it look above board, but it’s not. It’s done. It was done before she decided to go on the portal.
She may end up at Oklahoma, but I am hearing that it isn't because of any NIL deal. Patty Gasso has the ability to sell the best facilities in the world, a string of 4 consecutive National Championships, a solid defensive group to back her pitching (which she lacks at Stanford), being much closer to home, not having to travel across the country for an ACC schedule, and a lot more.

OU hasn't needed to pay players to come. They sell the best program in the country and girls line up wanting in. They may get some NIL money, but it isn't a main driver.

Those sound like all the Twitter spins. If that was the case, I don’t think DeerPark would have stated the amount being larger then 250K speculated here and elsewhere from what he’s heard.

Some West coast teams will struggle with a portion of the players not liking the long travel to ACC|Big Ten schools regularly

Very true. Teams needs boosters that are capable and willing. Softball has less of that
Softball does or softball at most schools don’t have it.

If OU is paying 250 or more for one pitcher then obviously their softball has Money.
