Tennessee Softball 2024

Oklahoma has a deeper pitching staff then we do We don't have that luxury because Karen didn't find us a quality third pitcher.
I think it was more of not having a pitcher in this freshman class. I feel like in year prior there has always been a pitcher in case of transfers, injuries, etc. however relying on the portal is not something that is guaranteed every year and especially going into next year when the covid years are gone. I was very surprised when they announced this class and a pitcher wasn’t included.

This has been a problem for us for most of the last 10 years. Not last year, but it's a recurring problem--and it shouldn't be. That said,
our staff overall has looked pretty solid, except for tonight!

That’s stupid because you gotta play to win, this isn’t high school

It's not stupid. We've got more than 9 good field players. You've got to get different players some game action to get them going and to
see how they perform. You don't just lock into one lineup in the first 10 games of the season. The idea is to have the best team possible at the end of the season--by fully vetting your roster--not at the start of the season, and the way to do that is to play all those who you think can contribute. As the year goes along, you zero in more on a specific lineup and specific people in reserve roles.

Season early not going as well as any hoped even the players know this. Long Season lots to work on but talent is there let's wait and see how things continue to go. My bet is we will challenge to repeat as Champions of SEC. In CHRIST Alone

The ace of a softball team typically pitches the first and last game of a three-game series. So yes. We have no alternative. Charli Orsini and Ryleigh White are no match for SEC teams.
It’s funny to me that y’all are only discussing pitching. Fullerton 2 hit the Vols. Can’t win a game like that. Staff is fine, needs consistent hits. Period. The 4 pitchers all offer something. Have faith. No championships are won in February.

I didn’t get to watch the games but looked at the lives stats a bit. Obviously CSUF took it to us and gave us a wake up call, but they are a tournament team so I guess long term it isn’t a “bad loss” however I don’t think scoring 6 runs was appropriate for the many good hitters we have. At this point we should be able to have other players PH and feel comfortable doing that. If I am being honest, I don’t think Faw should be playing unless it’s against a mid major team just for confidence reasons…her potential against good teams is just completely diminishes. Idk what is going on with the hitters but it doesn’t seem like they are quick to make adjustments. As far as the pitching, I think it needs to be a pitch by committee mentality by all 4 every game especially until our offense can figure out these struggles.

Missing on the portal, 3 pitchers for next years class (2 if Dodge plays this year) it seems caused to misjudge numbers.

Looks like Missouri beat fullerton 3-0
if our frontline pitcher is having a bad start not going to get better with the other two pitchers we use when that happens. I thought from the beginning the lack of a third elite pitcher was going to be a huge problem and it is already appearing to be true. When it was 3 to 1 if we had someone to come in and put out the fire we at least had a chance to come back. Thinking some less talented pitchers can get the job done just usually makes it worse and we saw that in that game.

Well they have certainly proven that their preseason #2 ranking was overrated. Hopefully they will come back down to earth now and realize other teams are not intimated by them walking on the field and will have to play to gain respect. Karen will have to stop this lineup experiment soon. Lets hope she loses her infatuation with G and Faw for now anyway.

Payton just had a game where her ball was not moving much. It is a game that reminded me of Baylor second game last year where they really were not hitting it that well but were finding holes. That happens what is a really not good trend is the hitting. Not adjusting, playing batters that are not hitting and really never showed the ability to hit (Faw should not be starting but she is young and her swing looks good). People are saying you have to play them now. No you don’t plenty of games coming to do that in the next few weeks. As I noted earlier the vets need to step up. This is not their first rodeo and many of their at bats are bad and worst is the weak contact. Panelll needs to give them some lessons.
