Tennessee Titans sue Lane Kiffin

What do you think will be the outcome of this? I don't think there is any doubt that Pola and USC violated the contract but I'm wondering what will happen as far as damages.

You have to admit this panders to the Titan's fanbase. I think it is a great move on the Titan's part even if they have no expectations of winning.

I would imagine Haden isn't too happy with alienating a prominent alumni just because the HC is too stupid or malicious to go through the proper channels.
I have no idea how they are going to quantify loss. First, they fired a running backs coach who just had a 2,000 yard rusher. Exactly what are they going to say? Pola would have gotten him to 2,500 this year? Their best case would be for specific performance, i.e. Pola works for them, but that makes no sense under the circumstances.

Who cares about the runningbacks coach for the Titans anyway. On his chalk board it reads" Hand the ball to Johnson" repeatedly. The guy has the easiest job in the whole. Chris Johnson isn't second rate and that's a fact.

I believe that this, more than anything, is a PA move by the Titans to appeal to the volunteer state. The residents of which, for the most part, aren't Kiffin's greatest fans.

I used to like the Redskins, but feel stupid cheering for them when i have a NFL team right down the road. The whole league is Mediocre unless you happen to be on Tom Brady or Peyton Manning's teams. New Orleans isn't a first class operation and they manged to win the whole dam thing. Salary cap has turned the whole league into mediocrity. So i feel like you're just trying to provoke a response, i don't play that game.

that expired last year.

But I'd have to say with the money the NFL generates - especially when looked at with the other sporting leagues - that the league itself is far from mediocrity, especially with the response it receives

I doubt that anyone on the Titan's staff are overly concerned about damages at this point. I'd say Fisher took this as a disrespectful slap in the face by Kiffin and I'm sure it wouldn't have taken a whole lot of posturing with Adams, the Titans' owner to get the go ahead and file this suit. This brightens the bad national spotlight on Kiffin and USC and by doing that it helps Pat Haden start building the case for Kiffin's removal which is inevitable and then Fisher can have the last laugh.

The ABSOLUTE last thing that Kiffin needs right now is negative attention with Haden now acting as the "Grim Reaper" at USC.

Kiffin really is an idiot... I mean REALLY, REALLY an idiot.

Yeah, like the guys who sued the NFL on behalf of the USFL. They proved the NFL violated antitrust laws. That 4 bucks they got in damages really taught the NFL a lesson.

it looks like they're sueing in response to someone torting (is tort the word I want here?) or whatever it would be with someone enticing or inducing an employee to break/breach stipulations of an employment contract (or the employment contract itself) when said enticer knows the contract exists?

does that make any sense at all or work?

I just think Lane could care less about rules, he just wants wins. Not a bad way to think, but have just the least amount of class. He just makes moves that pretty much says up yours to everyone and i could care less. Pretty reckless thought process if that's indeed how he thinks.

The big news out of this for me is that Fisher, a guy who clearly bleeds Trojan through and through is willing to sue his alma mater over this. Fisher doesn't often lose it in the media like he did with this situation and this shows that his anger didn't stop there

Yup, because Jeff Fisher is head man of the organization.

I'm willing to bet he's in the courtroom arguing before the judge.

I love the Titans and want to see Kiffin flop, but I have to admit that this looks pretty strange. I'd rather they juts move on, but whatever.

First, they are going to have to prove Kiffin knew Pola had a clause that forbade him from discussing other employment without written consent. If Pola says he didn't tell SC that when they reached out to him, the Titans won't have much of a case against Kiffin or the school.

That seems unlikely. The Nashville Titans play in Nashville, and any anti-Kiffin move, which this suit would/could be characterized as, wouldn't make the residents here dislike Kiffin any more nor would it make any more Titans fans here, imo.

Calculated move on the Titans part, they know the Vols will be down this year, they're trying to move some of that Saturday money to Sunday. I'm joking, i'm joking. It's not hurting their PR though that's for sure.
