Tennessee Titans sue Lane Kiffin

So, the Titans are going to say "Our new guy sucks. He's nowhere near as good as Pola. Give us money." Great idea.

Doesn't matter how good or bad the new guy is. The cost of replacing Pola is damage per the breach of contract.

If Pola doesn't breach his contract and doesn't leave there is no incurred cost.

But he did, and so there is. Hence damages. And yes, it may get laughed out of court, but those are damages in any sense of the word.

Causing said entity to incur a cost directly due to a breach of contract could be awarded as damages.

I too want to see how the Titans would be able to justify or even prove the monetary loss they demand in the lawsuit.

Fisher has already said they are going to promote from within. Can't wait to see how much they claim him walking down the hall to tell someone they're now the running backs coach costs.

Okay. That changes things. I didn't know that.

If there isn't a search and process in replacing Pola and a cost associated then they have nothing.

Arguing with you is fun.

Who is left in the Volunteer State for Lame to piss off? USC's new AD is on the job less than a week and has a lawsuit brought against their fine institution of higher yearning. Attaboy CLK!!!

Apparently Kiffin is mixing with the Titans Running Back Coach and has been sued by Titans for taking Kennedy to Sunny Southern California. I know right before the start of the NFL season. But what else is new for the Kiffinator.

Unless there is something substantial in that contract then this whole thing is a waste of time. Kiffin just burned a bridge with a USC alum and i think Fisher might still have a little bit of pull around there. In the long run can't be good for Kiffin's future. He really made a bone head move there. Wonder if he really even knew he needed to do it? He is fairly new at all this and judging from his record not getting the hang of it too well.

Yup, because Jeff Fisher is head man of the organization.

I'm willing to bet he's in the courtroom arguing before the judge.

Clearly you don't know the Tennessee Titans. Jeff Fisher has his hands in every aspect of this organization. It's about as close to a one man organization as you'll find in the NFL

If you don't think he was consulted before this suit was filed you don't know anything about the Titans organization. I'm willing to bet large quantities of cash that he was not only aware of the suit, but in favor of such a suit.

Since they're promoting from within, they'll probably be paying the new guys less than they were Pola. Thus, the only way to say they're out anything is to essentially say their new guy can't carry Pola's bags.

The vast majority of coaches have such clauses in their contracts. Less and less often does anyone adhere to the protocols. Nobody ever sues. Why? One, I can't wait to see the Titans try to quantify their damages. Further, nobody wants to look like a whiner.[/QUOTE

"Whiners" is what insurance defense lawyers call plaintiffs.

Titans may feel that they could deter similar behavior in the future. I am not sure how.

Are you sure the contracts do not have liquidated damages or something like a non-compete clause that would require Pola to refrain from coaching for a specific amount of time? Money damages are going to be hard to prove.

He could have had a signing bonus and haft to pay it back.... don't know... just saying

The response I've seen around the internet by SC fans is mostly them telling Jeff Fisher to go screw himself and drudging up the fact he singlehandedly lost the 1980 UCLA game.

So glad to hear this. Love to see Fisher get fired up by something. He usually doesn't, but its awesome that it was Lane. It's not just Tennessee fans, its some of the most respected people in the profession.

If he was for or pushing this lawsuit then I have lost a lot of respect for him.

I agree with this post

Cool story bro. What does it have to do with UT football?

move it to either the NFL or around the NCAA forum

but wow

There wasn't anything wrong with it being in the Vols Football forum IMO. Whether y'all like it or not Kiffin was our coach and it's relative. Currently there are threads about Fulmer, Hardesty, Majors, and Peyton Manning in the forum but people aren't upset because their threads are in the football forum. Get over the self-righteousness already - it's getting old.

And I'm glad to see Kiffin getting his. Maybe they'll have to pay some money to the Titans when this thing is over with.

Sounds like they're very fond of him then. I'd say his relationship with SC fans really don't mean crap though. If he happens to donate money which i'd say he probably does. Odds are he probably knows other USC alum and boosters. I'd say Kiffin needs to start thinking a little more about what he's doing. Hayden and Fisher know each other pretty well i think.

Yeah, legal ramifications aside this seems like a dumb move.
