I don't think Barnes has ever had a conversation where it began with "we want/need you to leave the program"

He'll tell the existing players same as he does the portal prospects the no BS version of their chances at seeing minutes here and what role he envisions for them.

So if BJ or DJ or anyone is told "unlikely you'll be in the main 8 man rotation, but outside of league play you can see some minutes when games are in hand" then those players may simply choose to leave on their own.

Because if you look at everyone that's left, they found more minutes and starting opportunities at their new school.

They have a 5* SF signed, and they also received a JUCO guy last week that plays wing, I believe . So I’d say yes

I think the best case scenario is we land Knecht and Gainey moves to walk on. Technically he will be a “junior” by class next year so maybe that is what BTO is referring to. I really like the potential of a lot of the guys on this roster for the future and we’ve all seen how Barnes does better with teams that are more experienced with his system than bringing in mercenaries and one-and-done players. So, for that fact, I hope BJ and DJ have a home hear for at least one more year so we can see how they progress and if there is a space for them.

Im hoping Knecht signs and JP moves on to the NBA. I like JP but at this point i just want all the back and forth what ifs to end. Then i can focus on how crappy baseball season is going.

And his NIL is with him not the school, so again realize that NIL deals aren't attached to the school the student is enrolled at.


Also there aren't any "long term" NIL deals either. Most are for X amount of appearances or advertisements.
