Thing is right now we're at 13 with Phillips and JJJ both staying in the draft...just seems likely that if Knecht signs someone leaves and BJ would be most likely IMO. I'm sure Barnes would be able to get him a spot with Schwartz or English if he wanted to play for either.

Is the player Jefferson or Edwards? I don’t know. I just keep hearing that Edwards loves being there and wasn’t there some concerns with Jefferson in the Fall about his fit here?

If Knecht commits today, IMO it means Barnes and Co know that JP is gone to NBA
Phillips will test out high with NBA teams. He is too athletic for them to pass him up

I’m a dissenter on this. Officially, he’s a scholarship player. They don’t want to knock his brand publicly. Unofficially, they have space to be creative because they were careful about not officially recruiting him. That’ll shift wherever it needs to. He may very well end up on scholarship, but they’ve been pretty intentional about not closing options.

My comp for Knecht is Zach Levine. I know he is a 2 guard but think we will play him at the 3. I think he will average about 13 pts 7 boards and 2 ast as a Vol

You either see BJ Edwards or DJ Jefferson in the portal

OR

Jordan Gainey ends up being a PWO


It's that simple if Knecht commits OR Julian Phillips returns...if both happens you'll see both above things happen probably (doubt they'd want to send 2 players to the portal).

I've quietly felt the same way. No official visit, no fanfare, just came in and committed which seemingly leaves all options on the table.

Thanks for the update. This is good to know. It provides us with some nice flexibility with Knecht, especially if Phillips eventually does want to return. The numbers will work themselves out one way or another.

BJ Edwards makes the most sense if someone else were to leave.

Assuming ZZ gets healthy with SV coming back, I don’t see any room for playing time.
