Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

I do think we need to add a true PG in the portal, still holding out hope it's Perry. If what the kid says is true just spending a day on campus with Barnes will get him here I think. You won't find a more faith driven coach and program and Perry seems to say that's very important to him.

I also think that Freddie and Mashack will be very good ball handlers for us this upcoming season, not saying I want either to be our primary PG full time...but I think both of them will be better than JJJ and Santi even.

Don't sweat it too much about who plays the 3 or the 2 or whatever, college basketball really doesn't have dedicated spots much and with how we run motion and switch on defense we very well could see plenty of lineups where we've got 4 guards on the court.

Expect to see Freddie, Mashack, Santi (if he returns), ZZ, Carr, Phillips, DJ, BJ, and whoever we add from the portal on the court whenever they are needed.

The nice thing about next year's guard group is that Freddie, Carr, Mashack, DJ, BJ, and Santi are all 6'3" or taller so they can really all play 1-3 pretty easily.

Just run this lineup for the year, and see how we do. Screw it, it is what it is at this point. At least it’s another 20 win season.

Was stoked to use the portal this year because I’d almost guarantee we won’t touch it next year unless we just have 4-5 guys leave. Young roster.

2020-21 season we went 18-9. That team had 2 freshmen and 6 sophomores.

Pons, Keon & Jaden went to the league
Pember, Gaines, & EJ all transferred out

Following season we have 6 true freshmen join the team and we won the SECT.

Of the 9 players on that roster that played 20+ games and averaged over 12 minutes per game, only Fulky, JJJ, & Santi had played 600 minutes or more in their career going in. Next year's team if they stay healthy could surprise people. Mashack, Aidoo, and ZZ will all be juniors (the 3rd year is when Barnes' development really shows up). Santi returns and you have a senior presence with a ton of experience. Then you add in all the young talent that's hungry for minutes in DJ, Freddie, Carr, JP, Cade, Julian (if he returns), Awaka, and BJ

I mean this genuinely, and I’m not trying to be rude, I know it can be hard to tell tone through text. But, why are you so obsessed with the portal?

PG wise, I was.

Watching Key, and the rest of our guys bring the ball up the court was miserable to watch. Clear as day ZZ needed help at PG. I’m fine with the rest of the squad tbh. Signing Mario was just awful

Tons and tons of guys this year at the PG position that would have elevated this team.

I don’t know that this is the case, but play along for a minute as if it is…

Santi is returning (other seniors gone) and they feel Phillips is returning as well, no current roster players plan to transfer out, that would leave you with 1 available scholarship to give to a transfer. If the thought on staff between coaches and training staff is that Zeigler will be full go come October 1, and that Dilione has looked more than capable at PG, what are you using that 1 spot on? Still a PG? Or are you looking for some wing scoring in Knecht or low post scoring versatility in Ledlum?

Only explanation that I can give you is that they have that much confidence in Dillione or BJ improving enough to help at PG. Mashack can help too but I agree I would like to have another threat at PG.

Wasn’t JJJ also full to starting the season, or they said he would be?

My worry is well what if the same thing happens to ZZ? Are you fine with Dilione and whoever else to take care over that role?

Edit; yes I’d be thrilled with either Knecht or Ledlum

I think this is very likely. Get that Ledlum visit this weekend and I feel good about getting him.

They have an off-season to prepare Dillione and BJ to play PG. I think if ZZ is not 100% that they can handle it with a full off-season and their second season with Barnes.

No, JJJ missed essentially all the practices leading up to start of the season. But why did you answer my question with a question?

I’m not saying it’s the case, I truly don’t know, but given the talk around Santi returning and the fact we’ve seen nobody on our roster declare their intentions to transfer it has definitely made me wonder.

Because you asked what I’d rather have? A PG or one of the two others. I countered by asking do you feel confident in ZZ (potentially being full go) or one of the other guys bringing the ball up the court. It’s Appropriate to counter a question with one of my own

The wing guy is who I would take the Northern Colorado player I just believe that Aidoo and Awaka will progress nicely this year and got the big fella coming in Estrella low blocks should be fine

Yes health is a big factor if healthy I prefer the wing scorer

Do you not think they will redshirt Cade Phillips this coming year to get more weight on him and develop like Jefferson done this past year.Call me crazy but Jeffersons development will be a major key this year
