Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Hard to call it a miss when we never pursued. Miller is Mike Miller's son, who was a former assistant for Penny at UofM. Probably was never going to let his son go to Tennessee in the first place.
Perhaps, but the lack of quality BIGS and a instate recruit one would think he would have been on the radar.

Just like my comments in another thread about Fulky, Ticket is going nowhere until he bulks up some. Then, and only then, will he be anything but a liability on the court. I don't know if Fulky and Ticket were both greatly affected by COVID-19, but they just did not get it done in the offseason like they needed to.

I hate to say it, but there is just no way around the weight issue. Either bulk up, or go play at a much lower level. It's really that simple.

I have no idea if his offense will ever come around to the point that he can contribute anyway. He still has a long way to go.

I love how we give guys that average under 2 pts a game fancy nicknames or monikers because they had it in high school. That should've been kept low until he earned it again. So now instead of referring to him as "Big Ticket" some still call him "Ticket". Fans of other teams are like whoooooo?

And we should care what fans of other teams say or think?

Hey guys I created a transfer portal thread for anyone interested. @bleedingTNorange i went ahead and moved some of your recent, much appreciated posts over there
Thank you! Headed to find it. Personally, I'll be pissed if we don't have at least 4-5 new faces in addition to our incoming class on the roster next season.

If we were to add Tamba & BHH, while returning Anosike & Fulk, if we had 1 more scholarship to give what would you like to see added?

Chandler/Vescovi
Bailey/Mashack
James/Gaines
BHH/ORN/Walker/Pember
Fulky/Plavsic/Tamba/Anosike

I’m not saying that’s how it plays out, just curious if that’s the roster what 1 addition you’d want to see added? Backup PG who can also play some 2, maybe a knockdown shooter, quick guard? A big man that would warrant 30mpg at the 5 so we could move Fulky to the 4?

1. An immediate impact player in the post. A guy you can routinely expect to get you 12 and 8 every night and not be a defensive liability. A guy who gobbles up defensive rebounds.

2. A true, high-level outside shooter who is also capable of getting to the paint to keep defenses honest. Can be a guard or a wing, no preference on size.

3. A guard who can handle the ball in traffic and finish at the rim. Ball-handling>outside shooting.

I need a big man that can dunk it whenever he wants. Bring me the Irish Hulk. I also think we need a solid 3 and D player. I don't trust Bailey. Mashack likely won't be good from deep. James isn't consistent enough and Gaines.. oof. We need more shooting from our wings. I wouldn't mind one more player that doesn't make me cringe when they dribble the ball up the court.

We think alike.

A better backup PG so Vescovi can play off ball.

I’d like to see Barnes look for a back up PG in the transfer portal so SV can be moved to the wing.

He’s more of a spot up shooter that doesn’t need to be bringing the ball up court.

Number 2 there would be my number one priority. Other than maybe Chandler, with Keon and Jaden gone we’d have no guards or wings who can reliably penetrate in the half court. Really wish we could get one of those two back, but two lottery picks will look good

Dream scenario? And don't clown me for saying it, but the DREAM is for Barnes' to convince Springer to come back for one more year. He's likely gone, but I don't think he is ready yet. If, and I mean a big if, Springer falls outside the lottery, if Barnes can pull a Calipari/PJ Washington recruiting job, that is what I would want.

Assuming Springer is gone if he is anywhere in the first round at all, then my preference would be for an elite 3-point shooting wing. I feel like Walker and ORN can make huge strides next year and with BHH/Fulk we'd be OK in the post.

The biggest flaw on this team is we really don't have a guy that can just kill you from the perimeter. It seems like every really great team has someone that is almost automatic from the perimeter. The college game is heavily reliant on the 3-ball in this new era of the sport, yet I don't think Tennessee has ever been a team to take advantage of that style yet. Too many mid-range jumpers.

Another wing to backup James. That would likely be a position of need in the 2022 class.

The 2023 season is projected to look like:
Vescovi/Edwards
Mashack
Gaines
Walker/Pember
ORN/Uros/Tamba

Our guards look ok. Take Tamba assuming that between the 3 of those guys we can have a serviceable front court. Walker? I’m hopeful he can pan out. But would be great to have a replacement for JJJ who can get some playing time off the bench next year and start the year after at the 3 and play some 4.

Otherwise I’d get a true big man.

I guarantee you between now and 2023 a good portion of those names listed above will not be here. I fully expect Gaines and Pember to transfer if not this off-season then next. It also would not surprise me, depending on his minutes next year, if ORN sought more playing time elsewhere.

I just think 2023 is so far off and we'll probably hit the portal hard this off-season and next and our own roster will not be immune from the free transfer rule.
