Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

I guarantee you between now and 2023 a good portion of those names listed above will not be here. I fully expect Gaines and Pember to transfer if not this off-season then next. It also would not surprise me, depending on his minutes next year, if ORN sought more playing time elsewhere.

I just think 2023 is so far off and we'll probably hit the portal hard this off-season and next and our own roster will not be immune from the free transfer rule.
Yes things may very likely change, but I think it’s smart to look a year ahead so there’s a plan in place. And based on next years roster the most obvious place is a backup for JJJ. So two birds

Really for JJJ? Hopefully Meshak can contribute there and Scovi could play the 2 and Bailey the 3. Backup PG imo is more important.

If we were to add Tamba & BHH, while returning Anosike & Fulk, if we had 1 more scholarship to give what would you like to see added?

Chandler/Vescovi
Bailey/Mashack
James/Gaines
BHH/ORN/Walker/Pember
Fulky/Plavsic/Tamba/Anosike

I’m not saying that’s how it plays out, just curious if that’s the roster what 1 addition you’d want to see added? Backup PG who can also play some 2, maybe a knockdown shooter, quick guard? A big man that would warrant 30mpg at the 5 so we could move Fulky to the 4?

Another true PG would be my wish.

Doubtful. Neither guy is currently good enough at either sport to sacrifice training in one to entertain a childish fascination with the other. They need to buckle down and focus on being great football players, especially with a new staff in town.
Did not realize that and I guess their recruitment was over hyped...

I think Wideman could be a very similar player to Keon, if he concentrated only on basketball. But, joining the team after football, with the way Barnes puts so much stock in how each player practices, I doubt he ever plays a minute, unless it's mop-up time in blowouts

I understand the sentiment, but Wideman is not in the same stratosphere as Keon in basketball.

1. An immediate impact player in the post. A guy you can routinely expect to get you 12 and 8 every night and not be a defensive liability. A guy who gobbles up defensive rebounds.

2. A true, high-level outside shooter who is also capable of getting to the paint to keep defenses honest. Can be a guard or a wing, no preference on size.

3. A guard who can handle the ball in traffic and finish at the rim. Ball-handling>outside shooting.

This but in opposite order - 3 becomes 1, etc...

However, I want my backup PG to be around 6'5"

I wasn't saying that. Their game's and size are similar, both can jump out of the gym and have elite athleticism. Wideman could be an elite defensive player, too, imo. Wideman is no where near the player Keon is right now, but Malachi was still a high 4 star player that could have played basketball at almost any P5 conference school that he wanted to play for, if he concentrated only on basketball.
