I think you’re underestimating Gaines. He has some talent and a lot of want to. But like every player he needs regularly playing time to develop. UT has had an amazing recruiting run with wing players the last 2 years and Gaines is competing against guys more talented than himself for that playing time under a coach who doesn’t value developing his 8-10 roster guys. I believe Gaines needs to find a roster that will allow him to be on the floor every game and if so he will develop into a solid contributor. JMO, TIFWIW, AARPGaines wouldn't start for ETSU
He’s like a a buck 160 soaking wet, he’s been around long enough that no game PT is going to improve him, he needs to go to a lower level for PT and to start if that’s what he wants. He may be content in his role. However, in high level basketball, players like him are routinely “encouraged “ to find greener pastures and TN has at least three of those players that need to be redirected.I think you’re underestimating Gaines. I respectfully disagree with this as no players reach their potential without consistent PT IMO.he’s been around long enough that no game PT is going to improve him.

It’s OK to disagree but you cannot disagree with the fact that he can’t shoot, which is ultimately the name of the game!!! Frankly I feel bad for kids like him because he works his butt off he’s just not this level of good!I respectfully disagree with this as no players reach their potential without consistent PT IMO.
You may well be right that he’s going to have to transfer elsewhere to find PT although I don’t personally think he will have to go outside of D1 level to find PT

I don’t think the staff has much trust in Gaines on the offensive end. At the start of the year the staff was putting Gaines in and had him playing on the wing. Later in the year, the staff would put Gaines in and would just try to hide him in the dunker spot. Rick has mentioned that they track each shot at practice. I’ve noticed late in games when we need a three the staff puts in Pember even though his game three point percentage is 15%. I’m assuming Gaines struggled to shoot the ball at practice also.Well, if we went by what we have seen on the court, then Fulky would have been sent packing after the 2018-2019 season. I am not sure of all Gaines' reasons for lack of scoring. If that is what they are seeing in practice as well, then I would agree with your assessment. However, I'm thinking his biggest need is more weight so that he doesn't simply get pushed around the whole game.
Gaines played in most all the games last season averaging around 10 minutes and shot 72% on free throws. This year he only got in half the games averaging 1 minute and shot 50% on free throws. How do you explain this? Did he go from being an average free throw shooter to Shaq level due to Covid? It’s OK to disagree but you cannot disagree with the fact that he can’t shoot!

Not talking about just free throws he can’t score of the basketball at all!Gaines played in most all the games last season averaging around 10 minutes and shot 72% on free throws. My position is an anemic sample size doesn’t provide a true picture. I’m not claiming Gaines is anything, only that we don’t know what he is or can become unless he gets consistent PT. If he can’t get it here then he should transfer to a place where he can and my opinion is he won’t have to go outside of the D1 level to find it. Guess we’ll see
