Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

It's crazy how much recruiting has changed over the last few years. Kids like BJ Edwards that commit to a school as a junior and remain with that school are the exception. With ease of transfers, kids reclassifying, grad transfers and changing commitments due the coaching carrousel a class can be made or lost the end of the cycle. Ziegler and Vescovi came to campus just before or after the season started. BHH and Aidoo were last minute additions last year and this year, it looks like, we will have key members of the team as last minute additions. Coaches have to continue to recruit the kids on their team and it pays to keep positive relationships with kids after they have committed to other programs. Don't worry if your school has 0 commitments for the upcoming year because it can change quickly.

I know everyone wants Murray, who has a big height advantage, but Pack would elevate our pace, shooting and PG need more than any other player in the portal. This kid has a lot of Chandler DNA. Indianapolis star HS who shots and drives well. Just a great kid who never caught a growth spurt.

And would likely be here more than a year

Backup at 2/3? Not sure why he’d want to transfer to a school to be a backup when he was starting at LSU

Yeah, that's my thought as well. He's not starting over Santi or JJJ, and I don't see any point guard skills in his game. Unless Barnes decides to go small-ball next season with JJJ at 4, I don't see Murray coming here unless he's comfortable coming off the bench.

Fwiw VQ also mentioned that someone else is definitely leaving, and it’s someone who didn’t really have a role this year, confirming what I had said the other day. Things can change but that’s the only other departure expected (KC too), and then everyone else returning…so room to add 2.
What did you say the other day?

That we are going to have a departure from someone that hasn’t really been discussed…this will make room to add 2 more which is what the staff wants.
Based on the players we are going after (Phillips, Murray, Pack) it seems like the two more that the staff wants to bring is in a PG and a 3 man I'm assuming?

Interestingly enough Pack started as an off ball guard. Our 3 guard lineup wouldn't miss much of a beat. He had 35 against Kansas with going 8/12 from deep. 95 3's total this season.

edit: KS insiders seem to think he's headed to Purdue

If we get Pack and one of Murray/Phillips, dare I say we are better than this past year?

Maybe. It depends. In general, the SEC will be even tougher next year, IMO. And, I also think people underestimate the loss of Kennedy Chandler and what he means to this team. We certainly could be a better team IF we land Pack/Phillips, but it also depends on how our returning guys develop.

Basilio saying that there is “unexpected movement” coming soon and he will write about it on Monday.

The UTAD is apparently leaking info to the mid-minor donors.

2 departures, 3 additions. “It’s always the young ones”. ???
