Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Collins & Key will be a nice start, but the other two little bits of info don't sound too promising. I wish we were pursuing other big men....imagine we miss on those guys and we have a handful of players left that played 3 mins the previous season for some D3 schools. Mostly BVS.
huh?

Good to hear about Collins… Hope we land Key. Just would like an athletic 3/4 man and Phillips may be that guy. But the highest bidder thing doesn’t sound to promising.

Sorry, I'll rephrase. I'm just worried about going all in on Reneau & Phillips and being left with nothing in the portal, depending on how long their recruitments go.
Gotcha…I definitely think if you’re Tennessee at a certain point you have to explore other options if you aren’t feeling good about those guys.

Missouri is quietly putting together a great portal class with a first year coach. They just signed Noah Carter, a really strong offensive contributor. He’s a kid that I wish we had talked to.

If Phillips is looking for the highest bidder, why not just go to the G-League, get paid, and go to the NBA?

Seems like college would be a waste of time to him if that’s truly what he’s waiting on.

But it’s right in the same timeframe…Collins has until May 1 to announce intentions to transfers, Key is making his visits and comes to Knoxville Monday, Phillips could announce any day, Reneau is tougher to gauge as he’s quiet and Tennessee needs to get him to visit.

Point being, we are right in essentially the same spot, this is just a case of fans being impatient.

There you go again with facts and logic...lol

Your not losing BHH's numbers from last year, your losing what he would have brought to the table moving forward. That's why it hurts. My guess is that he would have been a 10 point 6 rebound type player this coming year.

Don't disagree but "what he brings to the table" also includes his baggage which seemingly is becoming more and more untenable in the form of his attitude and family/advisors so you have to consider both which I am sure the coaching staff is doing (and they know better than anyone). I think it is far more likely this will be addition by subtraction.

I'm more disappointed BHH felt it wasn't enough and rather than working harder is choosing to leave.

4 guys on the team played in all 35 games, BHH being one of them.

Of the freshmen on the team only 2 of them got more mpg than BHH (KC & ZZ). He also got 13 starts which was 2nd among the freshmen. Despite all that the only area BHH's production was greater than Aidoo was in points (based on their Per 40 projections), Aidoo would have had more rebounds and blocks with less turnovers. Assist/Steals would have been nearly equal.

How dare your facts interfere with the Olympic level pearl-clutching we have going on in here...lol.

Top tier NCAA programs will get him far more exposure than any G-League team though.

So the million dollar question is about Edwards. Are they wanting him to play the 2 position or is he just not ready for college competition?

With freshmen guys Barnes always has the same mindset. "You want it, you earn it" he won't just start high rated recruits because they are high rated recruits. Springer & Keon for example both worked into the starting lineup. Both were drafted in the NBA and neither started 20 games here. So Edwards will have the opportunity to play, but unless he's able to really prove something he likely won't start over Santi or ZZ or Collins if he's here.

Jonathan Kuminga and Jalen Green had plenty of buzz last year and went in the top 10 of the draft. They got to spend a month playing against a good number of fringe NBA players, too. One question I have it's whether they can make more than $500k from NIL.

In the G League they can negotiate their own endorsements and brands as well as get paid. The Athletic reported Jalen Green made over 1 million in his lone G League season.
