Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

If NIL was around in 2017, Dallas would have given Jarret Gaurantano $20 million. I mean after all it’s ONLY $20 million. Seems like a pretty fair deal to me!

$10M!

He played 10 games
That’s fair, I’d forgotten he had missed that much time. Even so, based on what I saw of him, I would not have guessed he had that much impact, especially considering there was practically no change in the level of competition. I suppose there was just not enough minutes available for him to get into a rhythm.

I'm jealous of KY that they convinced Tshiebwe to return. I wish we had been able to do that with KC.

Agree, but Tshiebwe's NBA prospects definitely are not on par with Kennedy's. KC is a 1st round pick with a lot of upside. Tshiebwe is an incredible college big who likely won't be an NBA star but should still be able to last there for a bit because of his work ethic.

He played an entirely different role at Tennessee than he did at Auburn, and for whatever reason, never had an ounce of the same confidence or level of aggression that he displayed at Auburn. One of the strangest year-to-year falloffs I've ever seen. You'd never even have guessed they were the same player.

I feel like with NiL you can't give the players any sort of lump sum offers. You give them a plan, with your workload in college you'll be able to do X appearances a month. Each appearance we can offer you Y to Z amount, the more popular you become with your success here the higher than range can go. The player still has to put in effort/work.

What I hope NiL organizations or collectives are doing is being honest with these kids and offering them networking/connections. "Oh you want to start a clothing company? Here in Knoxville we have connections with..."

I'm sure a lot of the bagman mentality will stay in college sports though, unfortunately it's a huge revenue market and lots of $ is being made and this is the solution to trickle a portion to the players but it also keeps the donors/university off the hook for having to directly pay them a cent.
