Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

It was called out when he signed here that he basically bounced around starting in high school. He would be best served to stick it out somewhere. Maybe these will be life lessons for someone like him. At some point you can’t always just pick up an move on
He’s been on a different basketball team every year since his freshman year in high school. Just absurd to think about lol

At this point I don’t see how we don’t leave a spot open for 2023. If we don’t I feel like we will end up with at least one reach… a Tamba type talent who will be processed after a year.

We have offered enough good players in the portal to fill the roster if we wanted. I think some may give positional overlap and may be looking for more minutes than we can offer. It makes sense that the staff has been looking at several SF types, I'm sure they knew Powell was thinking of leaving or knew he was leaving. That said, we may be better off spending it in 2023 than this year. We should still have a sold team next year if we can grab another good big and a point guard.

We've offered do many people in the portal the last couple of weeks, I'm not sure how many of the transfer posts we are in on at this point.

We have to land them first. Then you also have to consider we need several multi year guys cause we are losing quite a few seasons next year and could end up having to turn over the roster even more, which I don’t think Rick wants.

Fingers crossed, Hail Mary's said. Not sure how effective that'll be since I'm not Catholic. I just want to land some of these good players and continue our success next season.

Just for fun, say you’re in charge of NIL. What’s the most you’d pay for Hunter/Smith/Philips?
I’d gladly distribute 35M between them, and would probably go as high as 45M.

Only ignorant posters keep rehashing $5 million. It was certainly worth matching UCLA’s offer to continue with the upward trend. How much is the SECT championship worth? How much value is there in continuing to feed players into the NBA? To almost have automatic NCAAT bids? To compete with any team in the country? To live in the top 25? To just have had the highest final AP ranking in school history? How much is it worth to recently have 3 of the 5 most wins in a season ever? Or 2 of the highest ever in TN’s conference history?
I guess it depends on the point. The higher one's salary, the higher the expectations. I love everything CRB has done for UT. That doesn't buy him a pass to rest on his laurels. That doesn't mean if he has one bad season fans should turn on him, but if he were to have multiple bad seasons, I could see the problem. It just seems some choose to pick one extreme, and some the other. There's a lot of middle ground. There's no real reason to argue and get offended over message board opinions. My hope is CRB pulls off more magic and continues to have success here, eventually retiring on HIS terms. With a NC would be very, very nice.

That's why many of the legendary coaches are getting out. They know how difficult it will be to manage this new landscape as well as the HS stars who are now making a ton of money. Guys like Barnes who preach discipline and hard work will find it to be tough sledding. Barnes can resist, but he won't for long. He will either adapt or ride off into retirement. From what I've seen of the man tells me it's likely to be the latter. Men at his age don't make fundamental changes easily.
So let’s summarize. We now have to watch teams full of mercenaries who won’t put in the necessary work and then will abandon ship at the first sign of not getting what they think they deserve or if the coach doesn’t meet their demands. Does that about cover it? Oh boy. I am quivering with excitement.

Elon Musk spent 44 billion on twitter when he could’ve used that money to get Julian Phillips to come here. Smh

My expectations are the same whether a coach is being paid $500,000 or $5,000,000. It’s to do everything possible to win the next game and to maintain a high level for the program. It also includes not permitting embarrassing off court incidents to be tolerated by bringing in (and keeping) players of questionable character. When UCLA created a bump in Barnes’s salary of a million or two, the expectations stayed where they always were. The $5,000,000 is simply the economics of upper level P-5/6 basketball.

11 million per player is not THAT bad of a deal. If I hit the lottery tonight, that would be my donation (offer) to Spyre tomorrow morning lol
I mean, the 5 * QB's deal is $8M over 4 years. $11M for a player that might be here a year seems excessive. But what do I know?

Ooo fun feature that I hadn’t noticed before. You don’t see quotes of people you have on ignore. It just shows the response without the quoted content. I seem to remember used to having to ask people not to quote trolls like Joe but now it’s all good!
I found that lovely feature a couple of months back and 5 miserable mopes immediately made the list. I just don’t have time or the patience for sad sacks that want to drag you into their perpetual personal pit of misery. He just became #6.
