Staff talked to McCullar yesterday. I seem to be one of one who would be excited about picking him up. He’s a monster on defense and a great team player.
Florida is the closest that comes to mind when they nearly held all 3 titles back in 2005-2006.I want Tennessee to be the first university to win NCs in football, basketball, and baseball in the same season....
It's a goal.
With McCullar being a wing, does staff talking to him mean we feel less confident in Phillips now? Or is this just the staff reaching out to do their due diligence in case we do get a no?
You do realize that football pays the bills right? Attendance and interest in football is all important to the school. I love basketball but you have to realize who drives the bus these days. It’s just natural that the football stars are going to get more money. Just the way it is.Well, I can’t comprehend giving a quarterback 8 million when we can’t even take care of our own players on roster apparently. JJJ is allegedly making high six figures. Think about that.
The word was that Duren and Bates got “six figure deals” from Memphis and they were as highly ranked as they come. It wasn’t “millions” according to reports. And it appears that Memphis outbid the big dogs for those two. So I’m thinking these $5 to $10 million figures for a basketball player are erroneous. It’s probably going to increase but not to those levels. Especially for a one and done 5 star.Would love to see who in the country is paying $10m+/year for basketball players? $5m+?
At this point sounds like:
PG: Tyrese Hunter/Isaac Likekele/John Michael-Wright
Off ball: Julian Phillips/Malachi Smith/Kevin McCullar
Post: Tobe Awaka
And UT basketball is probably one of fewer than 20 schools that makes money on that sport. The rest are subsidized by football.15 million a piece is not worth a championship to anyone seriously involved with NIL or the university of Tennessee, I can promise you that. Just for perspective on this, UT MBB brought in less than 10m last year. Football brought in around 60m. I know that money is not going to NIL, but just think about that for a sec and consider that, along with the fact that the average NBA salary is around 7.5m per year.
