I’ve asked about him but heard nothing cause he would make a ton of sense, has a bit of a Rod Clark connection too…Nova fans seem to think he’s headed there. Is Courtney Ramey a possibility at all? I know his father said we'd been in contact. He'd be good enough to split time with ZZ on a basically equal basis and allow BJ much more time to develop.
Disagree. You saw what happened when Turner went out. Things turned into a sh*tshow pretty quickly when teams began putting pressure on SV.
Even now he still struggles going to his right. ZZ is quick but was very TO prone when he ran point.
Yeah, but I feel like people in this thread are arguing two different things. This discussion started because we were discussing how far down the list people would be willing to go to find a PG that could spot fill if ZZ or BJE got hurt. People then said they would be willing to go pretty far down the list to the recesses of mid-majors or below just to get a guy that can dribble the basketball.
Personally, I’m not certain anyone THAT far down the list would be any better against P5 competition running the point than the guards we have now. I think I would trust Josiah running point over someone with little true experience against high-caliber competition.
I just don’t see the need to fill the spot if we’re going to be dumpster diving for a guy that isn’t any better than what we have.
Personally, I’d rather keep the scholarship open. We’re a lot more flush with guards than the year Turner went down. Our roster is far more talented than that team was.
I think BJE, Santi and Key would all get cracks at it before JJJ.UT originally recruited JJJ as a "big PG" but abandoned that pretty quickly and they haven't gone back to it. So the JJJ as a PG option being floated around on here seems incredibly misguided and uninformed.
Let JJJ continue to play to his strengths and playing PG isn't it.

Think you got that backwards - he’s a 3 point shooter that occasionally shoots the midrangeThe only issue I have with Josiah running the point is he’s not aggressive attacking the rim nor has the speed to beat defenders.
He’s a mid range shooter who occasionally shoots the three but isn’t really a player who can run an offense.

Maybe things will shake out more when Hunter decides. I know he declared for the draft too and has until June 1st to pull out. I've not heard if he did yet or not. I can't find anything about him taking any visits or anything else.
He’s visited Purdue, Gonzaga, and Tennessee. Visits Texas this weekend. Then he is done. It is said Texas will be his last visit.
Texas is apparently the heavy favorite to land him, but Tennessee has been said to still have a real outside shot at getting his services. I’m biased obviously, but I personally don’t see the appeal of Texas over any of his other options. You certainly can’t argue “development” as I think the other 3 head coaches have a far better track record of producing pro players than Chris Beard.

Well, to be fair, I didn’t say JJJ was my preference for PG. That’s a disingenuous framing of my argument. I’m saying I don’t feel the need to go so far down the list of available options when we are flush with guards. Do I want to add an additional PG? Absolutely. But, I don’t think we should unless it’s someone that is ready to make a real impact on this team and not just be depth on the off-chance ZZ, BJE, Vescovi, or Key gets hurt. Anyone willing to be that type of guy and wait patiently for a spot to open up on the floor due to injuries probably isn’t someone any better than what we have on the roster.
